DOTCORNY Agility and Flyball Classes May-June 2015 AGILITY CLASSES: The following sequences of classes are recommended for optimal learning experiences in your agility training: Beginner Agility I; Beginner Agility II; Advanced Beginner; Pre-Novice; Open/Excellent and Masters. For all agility classes, participants must help with set-up/take down. This time is included in the scheduled time. May 12-June 30 8 week class 7:30-8:45pm Next suggested class: Advanced Beginner TUESDAY EVENINGS *INTRODUCTION TO TRACKING May 12-June 30 8 week class Pre-Requisite:None ( 6 dog limit) 6:30-7:30pm *class location listed below WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AGILITY FOUNDATIONS : (8 dog limit) May 6-June 10 6 week class Pre-Requisite: None 6:15-7:30pm Next suggested class: Beginner Agility I Class Content Targeted for handler/dog teams that are interested in or have started agility completion. Handlers will be challenged with analyzing how to best navigate a course and best methods to handle sequences. Handlers should have a good working relationship with their dog. The dogs should have a good understanding of obstacle requirement. The focus will be on teaching the foundation skills for correct and safe obstacle performance. Dogs will be on leash much of the time. The team (handler and dog) will be introduced to all agility obstacles set at the lowest and safest levels. Dogs will learn basic tools needed for successful training in agility such as stay, come, target, & go. Continuing the knowledge and developmental skills on all the equipment. Equipment will be raised to the next safest level. Most work will be done off leash and various obstacle combinations will be introduced. This introduction to tracking class takes the beginner from no tracking experience to certification ready in eight weeks! The dogs should have a buckle collar and 6 foot leash. Also bring LOTS of yummy treats for the first night of class! From the Ground Up: The sport of agility can be broken into a set of core behaviors both by handler & dog alike. Combining these core skills together create successful agility teams. This class will focus on teaching many of the core behaviors, many of which do not include agility equipment. Good for puppies & dogs new to agility, this class will primarily focus on foundation skills & teach obstacle behavior as necessary. Instructor Bonnie Platt Kay Sadowsky Kay Sadowsky Dorothy Bayer Joel Basa WEDNESDAY EVENINGS May 6-June 10 6 week class 7:45-9:00 pm OPEN/EXCELLENT/MASTER This class will focus on Open to (6 dog limit) Excellent/Masters level courses. Emphasis will be on discussing various Pre-Requisite: Novice or tested by handling maneuvers to successfully run the instructor or training director prior to class start. Typically these the course for speed and accuracy. THURSDAY EVENINGS teams have earned at least one leg in AKC Novice Agility competition or equivalent ADVANCED BEGINNER: (6 dog limit) May 14-July 2 8 week class Pre-Requisite: Beginner I and Beginner II 6:15-7:30pm Next suggested class: Pre Novice/Novice INTRO TO FLYBALL : (dogs 6 months/older) SUNDAY EVENINGS April 19-May 10 (4 week session) Pre-Requisite: None 5:00-6:00pm Work on contacts, handling skills, start lines and weave entries. There will be sequences and a mini course using what was learned in class with an emphasis on sequence work involving the use of “crosses.” Work will be done building both dog and human confidence while having fun with your dog. Learn the exciting sport of flyball-a dog relay race! This fun sport is for dogs of all ages, sizes and breeds. The 4 week course will teach ball retrieval off the box, taking the jumps and provide the basics to anticipate in this fast-paced dog event. Checks returned unpaid for any reason are subject to a $40 processing fee. You will be notified by telephone and/or by email if your class is filled. Because DOTCORNY makes every effort to accommodate prospective students and their dogs, alternate classes or times will be offered, if possible. On the corner of 251 and 15A. DOTCORNY Telephone: (585) 251-1784 GENERAL INFORMATION A few tips for FIRST NIGHT – Welcome to DOTCORNY! Have fun learning how to train your dog! Bring your dog, unless otherwise noted, and proof of vaccination. Have your dog on a plain buckle collar and a 6 foot cloth or leather leash. If you use another training collar, bring it with you. No Flexi leads are allowed in the building. Please leave them at home. PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOG CLOSE TO YOU WHEN ENTER THE BUILDING. Your dog may be friendly but not all dogs are. All dogs must be on leash when entering and leaving the building regardless of class/training level. Dress comfortably for training. Dress in layers as the temperature of the building can vary. We advise during the winter months that you bring a sweatshirt with you in case it is chilly in the building. Wear sneakers or rubber soled shoes that you can run in. Bring a motivating treat or toy for your dog. Observers are welcome and may want to bring their own chair. We have one designated, well-marked potty area. Please do not potty your dogs anywhere else as this is actually a violation of our lease, and please remember to pick up after your dog. NO AGGRESSIVE DOGS ARE ALLOWED IN CLASSES. INSTRUCTORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT PARTICIPATION IN THEIR CLASSES AT THEIR DISCRETION. ALSO, IF A DOG IS NOT IN THE APPROPRIATE CLASS LEVEL, ANOTHER MAY BE RECOMMENDED BY THE INSTRUCTOR.
