INTER SCHOOL ENGLISH LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2015
Dear Principal,
English literature is the path to knowledge. It has been a key for understanding to the
world and a means of inspiring and supporting cultural and social movements. Literature
continues to transmit messages of cultural awareness, beliefs, spiritual growths and
ideals from one generation to the other.
Studying literature can be an enriching, eye opening experience. To expose the children
to the beauty of English Literature, DPS Dwarka is organizing ‘LUMINARIUM – The
Inter School English Literature Festival’ on 15 & 16 July 2015. A multitude of
innovative and creative competitions have been planned which will enable the children
to learn more and explore more.
Our aim is to provide the participants the finest of educational opportunities. We hope
that you will appreciate our endeavour in this direction.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Schools must confirm their participation by sending the duly filled in
Registration Form latest by Thursday, 30 April 2015. Schools can also
register
through
the
link
‘LUMINARIUM’
on
the
school
website
www.dpsdwarka.com Entries received after the scheduled date will not be
accepted.

The first 25 schools that register will be eligible to participate in the event.

Registration time at DPS Dwarka on both the days is from 8.00 a.m. to
8.45 a.m.

Schools must ensure that no student participates in more than one event.

All students must be in their school uniforms, unless they are in the costume for
their respective event.

All participants must carry their school Identity Cards.

Schools are requested to send a teacher escort with the participants to ensure
proper coordination & discipline.

The day / date wise schedule with event details has been given herewith for
reference.

Schools must participate in all the events to qualify for the Overall Trophy.

Decision of the judges will be final and binding.


This is a written elimination round.

Top 6 teams from the Preliminary Round will qualify for the Final Round of the
quiz.
The topics for the final round will include characters, theme, plot and spellings
from the above mentioned books. There will be an audio visual round as well.
Decision of the Quiz Master will be final and binding.
Both rounds will be held on the same day.

 Both members should narrate the story.
 No written material should be used during the narration.

SHAKESPEARE’S MAJESTIC MAIDENS
Classes IX - XI

General Guidelines

Participants have to enact a scene highlighting the importance/strength of
women characters in Shakespearean plays. The play will be allotted to the
schools once they register for the event. The scene from the allotted play
may involve the use of narrator / chorus / other characters or a combination
of any of the three.

Participating schools should carry their own props on the day of the event.

Participants should come dressed in suitable costumes. No green rooms will
be provided.

Power Point Presentation and live music can be used.

Instrumentalists (maximum 2) are excluded from the main cast.

Participating schools are allowed to bring any two musical instruments.

One key board will be permanently placed in the wings for all participating
schools, which may be used as one of the two instruments allowed.

 Each student will be presented a set of words (Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives etc.) in
jumbled order. The participants will unscramble all the words and write down
the correct words with correct spellings on the sheet provided.
 Thereafter, the participants will write a story using all the given words. They
must underline the given words as used in their story.
 A title should be provided to the story. The participants will then read out their
stories with proper intonation and voice modulation.
 Both the written story and its narration will be considered for judgement.

will be given to all the participants).
 The participants should recognize the simile and weave a self composed poem
of 20-25 lines around the simile.
 The simile should be an intrinsic part of the theme / central idea of the poem
composed, and not simply a poetic device used to beautify the poem.
 The simile can be repeated in the poem.
