(March 30, 2015) –The American Red Cross and Premera Blue Cross have teamed up to host Save-a-Life Saturday 2015, a hands-only CPR training event that is free to the public. The event will provide people with the power to save lives, focusing on the skills and know-how needed to help an individual survive heart failure. Save-a-Life Saturday 2015 will build on the success of last year’s event—which hosted more than 400 people and was Snohomish County’s largest CPR training event on record. Save-a-Life 2015 will be held on April 18, 2015 at the Lynnwood Convention Center. “Anyone can learn CPR and our aim is to empower our friends and neighbors from Snohomish County with the skills they need to make our community safer, stronger and a better place to live,” said Chuck Morrison, executive director, Snohomish County chapter of the Red Cross. “We are fortunate to be working together with Premera, a partner that shares our mission and is also committed to having a positive, lasting impact in our community.” According to The American Heart Association, 70 percent of Americans feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency and only one-third of victims receive CPR right away. Approximately 88 percent of all sudden heart attacks occur at home and receiving CPR quickly can double a victim’s chances of survival. Save-a-Life Saturday 2015 is an ideal CPR training event for families as hands-only CPR training is far more likely to be used on a loved one or coworker than on a perfect stranger. “Snohomish County is our home,” said Jamie Williams, Premera’s vice president of strategic operations and business continuity. “It’s a special community. Anything we can do to uphold and protect the health of its families is extremely important to us. Save a Life Saturday is such a great event because it empowers our community with a vital, potentially life-saving skill in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere.” Page 1 of 2 Event info: Save-a-Life Saturday 2015 When: April 18, 2015, with three sessions offered at 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Where: Lynwood Convention Center, 3711 196th Street Southwest, Lynnwood, WA 98036 What: 30 minute hands-only CPR lessons will be offered to up to 175 people at a time.
