General Meeting March 1st 2015.
Meeting opened at 9.05 am at the Australind Community Hall.
Present were as per attendance book. Absentees were as per attendance book. Guests were Christine Shadbolt; Walter and Anne Heath.
Minutes of the February meeting are as per Orchid Talk and on our website. Business arising from
minutes was nil. Minutes were passed to be true and correct by A. Light and seconded by J. Shelley.
Treasurers Report.
Treasurer explained and tabled for members perusal the receipts and expenses for month of February.
Our fixed term matures in March. Audit report was available at table for those who haven’t received
one. Treasurers Report was passed to be true and correct by B. Meade and seconded by R. Winch.
Correspondence Outwards.
 Contacted Forum Shopping Centre for Winter Show.
 Contacted Australind Shopping Centre for Autumn Show and August Display.
 Contacted Harvey Shire for use of Australind Hall for Spring Show.
Correspondence Inwards.
 Received Garden Magazines. They are on the table for members to take.
 Orchid Society Newsletters.
 Eaton Trophies advised change of ownership.
 Intersociety Display and Workshop is on August 1 & 2 nd at the Craigie Leisure Centre, run by
Wanneroo/Joondalup Orchid Society. Information is available.
 Australind Shopping Centre advised our Autumn Show is on 27 – 30 May. A display is on August 19 – 22.
 Bethany Display is on September 11th.
 Forum Shopping Centre advised Winter Show is 22-25 July. Forum has again asked for a show
or display later in the year.
 Mackay (Orchids in Paradise) Conference has extended its early bird registration to 21 st March
2015. I have lots of information for those interested.
 Harvey Council advised Australind community Hall is not available in September as each Saturday is booked.
 Rick Winch advised he has created a Face Book page for the Bunbury Orchid Society. Face
Book information is available.
Correspondence was passed to be true and correct by A. Light, seconded by G. Bradshaw.
Committee Report.
 Shows – Autumn and Winter Shows as listed.
 Spring Show will be 5/6 September, which is earlier than usual.
 Committee has appointed a sub-committee to look at Constitution.
 Bethany Aged Care display was organised.
 Questionnaire formed for members say.
 Guest speakers needed. Ron Fauntleroy to speak in April.
 Mike will again talk on shows.
 WAROO has not replied to our suggestion of Skype or Audio tapes.
 Judy Shelley will be editor for Orchid Talk.
General Business.
Rick asked members to check Constitution and advise of any necessary alterations.
Rick advised Face Book will have link to the website of Bunbury Orchid Society. He could
add cultural notes.
Graham Atherton moved a motion that we should book the S.W. Italian Club now as our options are very low. Judy Shelley and Ron Spark seconded the motion. Vote was passed for
Italian Club. No one voted against.
R. Winch asked for all members to update their emails, mailing addresses and phone
numbers.
Lucky Number Plant Draw – B. Harwood. Raffle - S. Nelson. Rick Winch’s members raffle
– open S. Nelson; Novice A. Domony. Popular Vote – novice R. & C. Spark; Open – Tie between B. Harwood & L. Darlington.
R. Winch spoke on the tabled orchids, although not a lot was displayed.
One orchid was placed for discussion because of its growth. The grower was concerned
and needed some clarification as to its behaviour.
Various members asked lots of questions with good answers given.
President reminded all that subscriptions are now due. Please pay treasurer.

Greetings
Well here we are at the end of another month and as you can see the April calendar looks
a bit bare. Please people, we need some ideas from you as to what can be done for the
rest of the year so thinking caps on and lets see what we can come up with.
Under the important dates section you will find the dates for the shows this year that
have been confirmed.
Also you will find in the minutes that the spring show venue was voted on and will be held
at the Italian Club. Date for the show at the moment is Saturday the 5th and Sunday the
6th of September.
We are hoping that this will bring new members to our group and raise the awareness of
orchids in the community. Personally I have found that there are many people in my local
area who have orchids that they have got from someone and have no idea what to do
with them, events like these allow them to come along and chat. Hopefully they find that
we are not as scary as they think and the orchids, with a little attention can thrive.
Laurie would like to remind members that the subs are due for this year.
Don’t forget that the Australian Orchid Conference is coming up in September as well. International speakers include Fred Clarke, who is a prolific breeder in America and has
produced some of the spotted Cattleyas that are becoming so popular. To check out the
