The Optimal Exploitation of Industrial Rock in Mining Sector
The Optimal Exploitation of Industrial Rock in Mining Sector Presented By JK CEMRNT WORKS(FUJAIRAH)FZC • The Optimal Exploitation of industrial Rock in mining Sector • The optimal exploitation of stone from mining means simply improving NPV of available reserves and resources in the country and improves the revenue for the Emirate in this business. • The objective can be achieved by • Enhancing production of major products – lime stone, Gabro etc - To meet domestic requirement and export to other countries such as other neighboring countries, India , Pakistan, etc • Maximizing extraction of Geological reserves and resources. • Enhancing production • To enhance production from current level following steps can be taken: • Award of new large size mining leases to capable parties • Set up fully export oriented units - with some incentive in the form of discount in royalty & taxations, shipping etc so that they can compete with domestic companies in other countries • Creating new mining clusters / special mining zone in new / remote areas • Higher maximization for better productivity and efficiency • Motivate domestic companies to have long term MOUs in export market • More exploration in new areas to discover higher quality deposits. • Maximizing extraction of Geological reserves and resources • • Why the optimum extraction is required in industrial stone mining sector? • To maximize recovery of available reserves • To increase the rate of return on investment • Since the natural mineral resources in the world are limited, we need to maximize recovery of minerals during mining / quarrying with minimum wastage of valuable the minerals. • The factors affecting recovery and action point to improve recovery in mining are: • Pit design • – Bench slopes, bench width, pit depth, pit angle, waste dumping plan etc • All these factors should be taken care during initial mine planning and Govt. authority can review the mine plan from mineral extraction point of view. • Latest mine planning software such as Data mine Studio, Surpac, Gemcon etc can help in this regard. • Technology in use • – Type of equipment, • - drilling & blasting technique • Each mine should ensure use of correct type of equipment which can help in maximizing recovery for example excavator boom height should be matching with bench height. • Shape of mine lease • - Regular shape, sufficient strike length • All leases should be of regular shape such as rectangular / square with sufficient strike length so that loss of mineral on boundaries can be minimized. • Size of mines • The size of mine is very critical from mineral conservation point of view smaller mines leads to more losses of mineral in the form of boundary barrier. Hence bigger size mines are one of the solutions. • Mining rules and regulations • In mining rules & regulation mineral conservation should be given top priority and wastage of minerals should be taken very seriously. • Selective mining requirement • In case of multi minerals availability in a mine, the mine management should ensure proper mining for extraction of all minerals. As in case of Tawain area of Fujairah, some quantity of calcite & Quartz is found in lime stone mines. Such mineral should be recovered as by products which are having economic importance and very critical from mineral conservation point of view. • Crushing & sizing technology • While crushing operation wastage of minerals should be avoided like crusher fines dust (High grade lime stone) can be used in cement industries. • Wastage of mineral • Possibility should be explored to use waste rocks (uneconomical) for mine development work such as valley filling and road making rather than using lime stone. • Summary: • In conclusion, with adopting production enhancement and mineral conservation techniques, large size, well designed mines, a well designed special industrial incentive scheme and guidance from Govt. authorities can help in optimizing exploitation of these minerals. • This will help in maximizing revenue from this sector and can play a significant role in business in Emirates.
