Delta Upsilon Chapter
Spring 2015
IN THIS ISSUE:
Spring 2015 Semester in Review
by Greg Robertson, V.P. of Administration
Northern Arizona University’s Delta Upsilon
Chapter continued its tradition of providing a
wealth of networking and learning
opportunities for students with an
Accounting,
Finance,
or
Computer
Information Systems major. From the start of
the semester recruitment, was one of primary
focuses. Members and officers went to a
variety of classrooms in search of potential
candidates, affiliates, and members alike. The
effort was extremely successful, giving the
chapter a diverse community of new
students.
Everyone in the chapter had the opportunity
to attend numerous professional events. The
professional events this semester were
stratified not only in topic, but also in the
variety of firms in attendance. The firms that
presented during the year were: McGladrey,
Moss Adams, Grant Thornton, Deloitte, L.
Roy Papp & Associates, CBIZ & MHM, and the
Office of the Auditor General. Presentations
were also given by Dr. Clark, Professor of
Management, and by Beta Alpha Psi officers
Kevin Koril and Sarah Nicholas. Topics
included the transition from school to work,
investment tips, and negotiations. Beta Alpha
Psi would like to extend a sincere thank you to
all professionals and firms who participated
and presented this semester, as it is a huge
part of what makes Beta Alpha Psi a
successful organization.
One of the most important contributions of
our chapter is our ability to protect the
integrity of lower level accounting exams, and
helping business students prepare for their
accounting exams. Our expertise in our
respective fields allows us to give back to the
W.A. Franke College of Business and help
improve the success of its respective
students. In general, the Delta Upsilon
Chapter has made great contributions and
improvements this semester, and we look
forward to the upcoming school year.
Recruitment, Venture Up,
and Socials
by Tobias Martinez, V.P. of Member Services
This semester Beta Alpha Psi pursued our
recruiting needs by reaching out to students
in their classes. This ended up being very
successful, as we added over twenty new
affiliates, candidates and members. After
recruitment, the chapter held our semiannual new member and

candidate initiation ceremony. We were
fortunate to have Mike Donnelly from
“Venture Up” the nation’s #1 organization in
team building, help us with some fun and
exciting team building exercises! This was a
great way to kick off the semester for our
members, as it helped us all bond and learn to
communicate and work together. During the
semester we also held a social for Betas to
come and enjoy food and board games, as
well as get to know other members!

Alumni Golf Tournament
by Shannon Johnson, V.P. of Special Events
The Annual Alumni Golf Tournament
took place in Sedona, Arizona at the
Poco Diablo Resort on April 24th.
Over 50 Beta Alpha Psi members,
NAU faculty, and professionals from
around the area participated in a
round of best-ball golf. The winners
took home Starbucks gift cards. The
2015-2016 Beta Alpha Psi officers
were announced at a banquet lunch
after the game.
Additionally, Jack Jess won the
Outstanding Member award for the
semester, and Jayme Worden won
the Outstanding Candidate award.
Luka Radjenovich was awarded the
Roger CPA Exam Review scholarship.
Graduating seniors were presented
with sashes to wear at graduation to
symbolize their involvement in
BAP. It was a great way to wrap up
the semester and network with
professionals. BAP would like to
thank McGladrey for sponsoring the
event!
Giving Back to the FCB
by Kayla Mayfield, V.P. of Service Events
This semester, Beta Alpha Psi continued its
tradition of hosting test prep review
sessions for ACC 255 and 256. Our sessions
are known by both the faculty and the
students as being great preparation and
review for the exams. More than 200
students attended the ACC 256 review
sessions! The Delta Upsilon chapter also
proctored all ACC 255, ACC 256, and FIN
311 exams.
When we proctor the exams we greatly
assist the accounting professors with the
challenge of all sections of the class taking
the exam at the same time. We’d like to
thank all Beta members and candidates
who made these service events possible.

Spring 2015 Events
Professional Events
Phoenix Event
by Kevin Koril, V.P. of Professional Events
by Danielle Zerr, President
We’ve had a variety of professionals come to
speak to Beta this semester. Individuals from
McGladrey, Moss Adams, Grant Thornton,
Deloitte, NAU, Roy Papp, CBIZ, and the
Auditor General’s office provided great
insight into the professional world with a
variety of topics, such as Lisa Tanury’s
Resumes and Interviews presentation (which
was especially helpful the night before
Career Exploration Day), Kali Nosek’s talk on
Personal Branding, and Elise Delk’s
Accounting Jeopardy Game. Our
Professional Events offered our members
awesome opportunities to network and gain
more knowledge about the profession. Beta
Alpha Psi looks forward to continuing to
grow its relationship and friends within the
accounting world.
As part of our plan to once again obtain
superior chapter status with the Arizona
State University chapter of Beta Alpha Ps on
April 11th i. Seventeen of our members and
approximately fifty of ASU’s members
participated in a community service event
through St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix,
AZ. By working together we were able to
pack 18,900 meals in two hours! These meals
were used within the week to support
families in need of assistance. We are looking
forward to events with the ASU and U of A
chapters in the future!
Relay for Life
by Danielle Zerr, President
This semester we had the opportunity to,
once again, participate in NAU Relay for Life
on April 18-19 from 6pm to 6am. This event
is a twelve hour long fundraising party that
donates all proceeds to The American Cancer
Society. We created a game called SLOGOS
in which participants were asked to match
popular slogans such as “Taste the Rainbow”
(Skittles) with the product or company
logos. We had fourteen members participate
in the event and through our fundraiser, and
participation in the event as a whole, we
helped NAU raise $84,000 in the fight against
cancer! In comparison to other universities
across the nation, this placed NAU in 11th
place!
Regional Meeting
by Mark Sanaiha, V.P. of Finance
Sarah Nicholas, Webmaster
This semester five Beta officers attended the
Western Regional meeting in Las Vegas on
February 20-21. Here we met with the
national advisory board and members of
other Western Regional chapters. The guest
speaker at this event was the mayor of Las
Vegas. She spoke to us about seizing the
opportunities that are presented to us, and
her journey through life. Following her
speech, we began an ethics activity with our
faculty advisors where we analyzed different
scenarios, and came up with the best
possible solution. After this, we all
participated in a game of Scrabble ®, which
simulated problem solving and team
management. The next day, we attended
presentations on topics such as ethics, real
world valuation methods and “my first
engagement”. This was a great event for us
to network with other chapters and
professionals.

Coming up in the fall…
The Delta Upsilon Chapter looks forward to
upholding its reputation within the student
business community with positive changes
that will further build members into
professionals. There will be several new
events in which members, candidates, and
affiliates can develop relationships with each
other and professionals. The Las Vegas tour
is one of most important highlights in which
Beta Alpha Psi is allowed to get a closer look
into business processes of a major casino, the
Tropicana. The fall banquet towards the end
of the next semester is also a huge highlight
in which Beta Alpha Psi is accompanied by
alumni, professionals, and NAU faculty.
