Franklin Community High School Announcements Friday, May 1, 2015 GENERAL ***Follow us on our Twitter page @Franklin_CommHS or Like us on our Facebook page @ Franklin Community High School FAST TRACK INFORMATION ATTACHED WHERE: CUSTER BAKER INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL WHEN: JULY 30, 5-7PM REGISTER ONLINE BY JUNE 12 YEAR END DAILY SCHEDULE Here is an overview of the schedule changes: April 27th through May 19th Mondays 2, COACH/GI, 4, 6 Tuesdays 1, 3, 5, 7 Wednesdays 2, COACH/GI, 4, 6 Thursdays 1, 3, 5, 7 Friday periods 1-7 Even classes starting at 7:50, C9 reports @ 1:15pm Odd classes starting at 7:50, C9 reports @ 11am Regular Wed schedule starting at 8:25 Odd classes starting at 7:50, C9 reports @ 11am Regular 7 period day The schedule above is for 3 weeks, and then finals begin on Wednesday May 20th FRANKLIN FFA ALUMNI PLANT SALES Franklin FFA will have their annual plant sale from Saturday, May 2nd through Saturday, May 9th. Hours of operation are Saturdays: 9am-1pm, weekdays: 3pm-6pm and Sunday: 1pm4pm. These are great gifts for Mother’s Day. The flower sale will be located in the greenhouse located behind the school. Featuring: Vegetable plants (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and other hard to find plants) Flowers (coleus, petunias, salvia, impatiens, and more) Hanging baskets (annuals, perennials, wandering jews and spider plants). All proceeds will help fund scholarships and FFA activities. ATTENTION PROM ATTENDEES: School attendance is mandatory on May 1(the day of Prom). Failure to attend school will result in denied admittance to Prom. Students leaving for an appointment on May 1st must have a doctor's note covering the time they missed. Upon returning to school, students must turn doctor's excuse in to attendance. If the student will not be returning to school due to an appointment a doctor's note must be taken to prom and given to an administrator before entry is granted. PROM INFORMATION Prom will be held on May 1st from 7 - 11 PM at The Crane Bay. This years’ theme is “Black Tie Affair”. Please note some very important information regarding prom below. As prom is quickly approaching, there are some reminders to consider. 1. Make sure you and your date bring a photo id, this can be a school id. 2. There will be breathalyzers at prom, so please be responsible, we want a safe, fun night. 3. There will be free parking at The Crane Bay. 4. Dinner (pasta, chicken, bread, salad, dessert, and unlimited drinks included) will be provided. 5. Tickets are nontransferable, so do not attempt to use a ticket that is not under your name. 6. To Pay Online please go to www.mylifetouch.com and use Picture Day ID #SB014499M0 FRANKLIN COMMUNITY DANCE MARATHON Students, if you are interested in applying to be either a committee member or executive member for next year's Dance Marathon, please submit your applications to either Mrs. Hart or Mrs. Sargent by 3pm this Friday, May 1st. Applications were shared with students via Google last week. STUDENT COUNCIL APPLICATIONS Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors: Applications to be involved in Student Council for the 2015-2016 school year are now available to pick up. You may grab the forms from Mrs. Mattox's room (F202- across from the Senior Lounge). The forms to be a general member of the FCHS Student Council are the actual application and a teacher/coach recommendation form.' If you would like to run for Class Representative and/or Student Council Officer, there are additional forms you will need to pick up. If you plan to run for a Student Council Officer, you will prepare a speech to present to current Student Council members on Wednesday, April 29th during COACH in the LGI Room. All forms must be turned in by Friday, May 1 in order to be eligible for Student Council. Since you are required to submit a teacher recommendation, please do not wait until the last minute to get these turned in. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Eskew or Mrs. Mattox. GRADUATION TICKETS All graduating students whom are in good standing are given 5 graduation tickets. If your family would require additional tickets, you may request up to an additional 5 tickets. Requests must be made by May 1st. Ticket request forms are available at the main office. Tickets will not be issued until after graduation practice. Graduates must attend practice to receive tickets. Additional festival seating will be provided in the Performing Arts Center. A live feed of graduation will be shown on the large screen. Tickets are not necessary for Performing Arts seating. CUB PANTRY The Cub Pantry is a choice food pantry serving Franklin Community School students and their families who attend FCMS and FCHS. The Cub Pantry is located at FCMS is open the first Thursday of every month November through May from 4pm-6pm. Please enter through door 24S located at the side of the building and the pantry is located in room B128. The Cub Pantry will be open next on the following Thursday: May 7th. It is a state mandate that you obtain this immunization prior to the start of your Senior year and provide written proof of the immunization. DRIVERS EDUCATION If you are interested in starting driver education, contact Mr. Leonard ([email protected]) or Mr. Clark ([email protected]) for sign-up information. More information can also be found at www.road-skills.com. SUMMER DRIVER’S EDUCATION Summer driver education classroom sessions will start on Monday, June 1 at Road Skills. Applications are being accepted and are due by May 29 to the Road Skills office. If you have any questions, see Mr. Leonard or Mr. Clark or go to www.road-skills.com for more information. **There will be a morning classroom session and possibly an evening classroom session based on enrollment numbers. AFTER SCHOOL LIBRARY RESOURCE Library resource is available for quiet study with academic support. Resource time is held in the Media Center from 3-5pm Monday through Thursday. Students are only to park in the southwest lots (the 2 athletic lots, the former "senior" lot, and the commuter lot-behind the blue signs). If you are parking in a staff lot or any lots on the east side of the school near the auditorium, you are subject to discipline, loss of driving privileges and your vehicle may be towed. All student drivers must have a parking permit or be subject to the same disciplinary actions above. Parking Pass Applications are available in the Main Office and FCHS homepage. LUNCH MONEY: Please have students turn in their lunch money by 10:30am each day, so they will not have an extended wait. Thanks. ATTENDANCE: Please call the attendance line to report student absences, and early dismissals at 738-5708. **Please note that a driver’s license, state identity or passport will be required to confirm the identity of the adult picking up the student for early dismissal. This policy has been put in place to protect the safety of our student body. **When possible please allow at least an hour for early dismissal calls. Thank you. It is that time of year where we start getting ready for graduation. If anyone would like to audition to give a speech at graduation please let Mrs. Henderson or Mrs. Hart know. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, May 6 after school at 3:15 in Mrs. Hart's room(E228). Speeches may be no longer than 3 minutes in length and be original. It is acceptable to use quotes but please give credit to the person. Please email Mrs. Henderson at [email protected] back if you are interested. Placing first: Mckinley Purdy- high jump and 400 dash Ally Parramore- 100 and 300 hurdles Sydney Fears- 1600 run Katie Novak- 200 dash Chayse Blackwell-pole vault 3200 relay team of Blaec Kunze, Charlie Kinney, Abbie Betts, Erika Sapp 400 relay team of Morgan Hoy, Carly Sandrock, Emma Beavins, Kloie Doublin With a dual meet record of 6-1, the team is off to its best start since 2009 going into the Mid-State Conference meet next week here at FCHS. BOYS’ TRACK The Franklin boys’ track and field team defeated Mooresville last evening by a score of 100-32. First place finishers for FCHS were Josh Cox in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and the long jump, Hunter Chadwell in the 400 meter dash, Blaine Conners in the 800, Luke Tucker in the 1600 meter run, Josh Campbell in the 3200 meter run, Sam Barnett in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, Tyler Hendricks in the shot put, Xak Berry in the discus, and Payton Utterback in the pole vault. Also finishing first was the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Lalnle Voris, Alex Gaddy, Sam Barnett and Hunter Chadwell, and the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Ethan Sullivan, Tevin Lashlee, Blaine Conners and Chandler McGaha. The team's record is now 6-2, and they will host the Mid-State conference meet next Tuesday evening. MENS VOLLEYBALL Congratulations to the 4th ranked men's volleyball team as the defeated the 3rd ranked Southport Cardinals last night in a stunning 5 set match. The Cubs won 25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-10 in the rematch between the teams. The Cubs were led by Hunter Gross with 3 blocks and 52 assists, Spencer Sullivan with 3 aces, Branden Hardesty with 17 kills and Travis Nerding with 26 digs. The Cubs pulled together in outstanding fashion to end the month of April. This win improves the Cubs overall record to 16-3 and guarantees FCHS the home court advantage in the STATE Qualifying matches on May 16th. Congrats boys! In JV action last night, the Cubs dropped a heartbreaker to Southport in a competitive 3 set match. The loss drops the JV Cubs overall record to 10-4. The varsity team is on the road on May 4th at Johnson County Rival Center Grove for a 6pm start. Congrats and good luck team! Wednesday night the varsity men's volleyball team traveled to Columbus North for the two teams’ first meeting this year. The Cubs defeated Columbus North in a streaky 5 set match. Scores were 13-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, 15-7 improving the overall record to 15-3. Point leaders on the night included Hunter Gross with 5 blocks and 54 assists , AJ Rice and Spencer Sullivan with 2 aces each, Phoenix Campos and Travis Nerding with 16 digs each and Quinn Cataldi with a season high 20 kills. Both the JV and varsity teams are in action tonight at home vs the Southport Cardinals. JV begins at 6pm, Parent Recognition ceremony follows and Varsity will play 7pm. Good luck Cubs! BOYS’ GOLF ANNOUNCEMENTS The boys’ golf team swept a 3 way match last night against Whiteland and Speedway at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course. Team scores were Franklin 152, Speedway 173 and Whiteland 201. Blake Andrews medaled the match shooting 36. Other individual scores were: Javan Johnson 38, Jake Hash 39, Matt Jordan 39 and Austin Barnhizer 40. The team will be back in action on Saturday in the Brownsburg Invite at West Chase Golf Course. The boys’ golf team split a 3 way match Wednesday night against Mooresville and Whiteland. Team scores were: Mooresville 307, Franklin 310 and Whiteland 426. Javan Johnson shot 74 and was medalist of the whole match. Way to go Javan!!! Other individual scores for Fanklin were: Matt Jordan 78, Austin Barnhizer 78, Jake Hash 80, Jared Amich 84, Blake Andrews 85, Tye Auton 88 and Chase Neville 91. The team will be back in action tonight taking on Whiteland and Speedway at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course tonight at 4:30.
