Auditions
Progression through ensembles
Progression from one group to another is done through
ongoing assessment by the conductor and sectional coach
and normally happens after 2 years in a group but this will
vary from group to group. Therefore no audition is
required. Apart from the individual instrumental/vocal
skills demonstrated by the pupil there many more equally
important attributes that we consider. This of course can
vary according to the different nature of the groups e.g. a
full orchestra only requires a small number of wind/brass
players compared to a wind band which caters for many
more such players. Criteria include:

Experience of playing with others

Individual musical level and ability

Role model qualities

Leadership qualities

Age of pupil

Demonstration of commitment to the group

Supply and demand of instruments to the group

Other extra-musical skills required for the group
We do however hold formal auditions for woodwind and
brass present students who wish play in Training
Orchestra and Youth Orchestra as these places are much
sought after as they require a high standard and more
mature level of performance . Singers also have to
audition for the Chamber Choir. Application form can be
obtained from the Office and must be returned by Friday
12th June. Auditions will take place on the morning of
Saturday 4th July 2015.
