GeoIntelligence Asia 2015
GeoIntelligence Asia 2015 is a premier geospatial defence event being
organised for the first time in the Asia Pacific region on xx April 2015 at
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Asia Pacific is the world’s most populous region accounting for half the
world’s population and an economically dynamic zone. The countries in the
region are making an effort to achieve political stability and steady
economic growth. Lately they have realized overall economic development
to varying degrees. Such economic development has deepened the
interdependence within and outside the region. However, this region still
has numerous destabilizing factors, such as territorial disputes, ethnic
minority issues, separatist movements and Islamic extremist groups.
Moreover, there is rampant human and narcotics trafficking and incidents
of piracy threatening mercantile traffic.
In order to cope with these problems, the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations (ASEAN) has been fostering cooperation to combat transnational
crime for more than three decades. ASEAN was initially concerned with the
abuse of narcotics and trafficking in illegal drugs. However, with the
expansion and diversification of transnational crime to include terrorism,
arms smuggling, money laundering, illegal migration, piracy and the highly
organised nature of such crime, ASEAN has intensified its efforts to fight
these crimes.

The nature of conflict has changed. Wars are no longer fought at predefined battlefields. Battle zones have now become digitised and pose new
challenges. The modern battlefield requires a totally new approach.
Geospatial Intelligence (GeoInt) is at the forefront of technologies required
GeoIntelligence Asia 2015
for modern warfare. GeoInt lays the critical foundation of this new method
as it involves amalgamation of different types of intelligence, such as
location intelligence, Imagery Intelligence (IMINT), Signal Intelligence
(SIGINT), Communications Intelligence (COMINT) and Human Intelligence
(HUMINT). Geospatial technology is also vital for facilitating multisource
information sharing and integration across agencies and organisations. It is
these capabilities that make GeoIntelligence an effective an indispensible
tool.
Apart from the threats to security, the region is prone to numerous natural
disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis. Though the
occurrence of these natural phenomenons cannot be prevented, their effect
can be mitigated by advance warning and an efficient response mechanism.
Geospatial technologies have an important role to play in this effort.
To create awareness about the growing need of geospatial technology for
defence, internal security and disaster management agencies,
GeoIntelligence Asia 2015, with a theme of GeoIntelligence: An
Indispensable Tool for Defence and Internal Security is planned at
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, exclusively focusing on the defence, internal
security and disaster response issues facing the region. Emerging
technologies will be discussed and industry participants will showcase
their latest technological solutions.
GeoIntelligence Asia 2015 will be dedicated to the highest level of
information exchange and networking within the Asia Pacific defence and
security sector. It will focus on the perspectives and requirements of the
decision makers who directly influence national security policy and
procedures. The conference aims to bring together some of the most
influential speakers and delegates from the Asian and international defence
and security establishment and industry. The aim is not only to provide a
platform which will benefit defence agencies but also help facilitate an
informal exchange of dialogue and cooperation in this region. The
conference will offer an excellent opportunity for information sharing and
networking.
