Role Description
To ensure design, deployment, configuration & testing of Data centre Technologies e.g. Compute,
Storage, Virtualization , Networking, Information security systems etc.through creation of the
architecture blueprints.
The role holder would also be responsible for delivery & installation of the same by the System
Integrators (SIs), Partners etc. as per defined requirements & within the established guidelines of
cost, quality & time.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Design and Implementation
►
Provide inputs to the overall strategy pertinent to IT Infrastructure
►
Techno-commercial assessments of architectural prepositions and IT solutions
►
Ensure implementation of the organization’s IT strategy
Technical Need Analysis
►
Collaborate with Head, IT Infrastructure to understand the IT infrastructure related
requirements and provide inputs in creation of architecture and functional requirement
specification documents
►
Provide inputs for bid-process management for selection of consultants/ vendors for
designing the Hardware and Network Architecture including inputs for design of RFPs,
evaluation of vendors, solutions, technical assessmentsetc
►
Collaborate with the finalized vendor to articulate the requirements of the User Agencies
(UA’s) and maturity of IT architecture of Providing Organizations (PO’s) and design the
Hardware and Network architecture to ensure alignment with same
►
Provide inputs to R&D team on Best Practices, methods and emerging technologies in the
related domain; Support in evaluating their applicability and feasibility for implementation at
GSTN
Design of Infrastructure Architecture
►
Undertake sizing of the IT Infrastructure including Server, Storage, Netwotk& Security, and
Support peripherals to ensure that they support user requirements on a sustainable basis
►
Collaborate with consultant/ vendor to design the architecture and configuration of the
Hardware and Network infrastructure
►
Finalize the IT infrastructure based on cost benefit analysis and adherence to security and
governance standards
►
Identify and ensure timely resolution of the potential implications and conflicts between the
Infrastructure
architecture,
with
any
constraints
imposed
by
the
Infrastructure
(logical/physical) design to the architecture; evaluate viable alternative approaches and
recommendations in coordination with the consultant/ vendor
►
Identify and build improvements in the existing/future architecture based on changing needs
of the organization, challenges faced in current implementation, technological changes at
Providing Organization’s end or changing needs of the User Agencies (UAs)
Infrastructure Development
►
Provide inputs for bid-process management for selection of vendors for implementation of
Hardware and Network infrastructure, including inputs for design of RFPs, evaluation of
vendors etc
►
Communicate the infrastructure blueprint to the finalized vendor in order to undertake
development infrastructure in line with the envisaged plan
►
Monitor the activities of System Integrators to ensure that Hardware and Network
infrastructure development & implementation is as per the defined guidelines of cost, quality
and time
►
Ensure design and configuration of IT infrastructure components, estimate and decompose
the capacity requirements for GSTN and other aspects of the system like telecommunications
in line with the Architectural blueprint
►
Ensure development of network security, building of firewalls, application of cryptography to
network applications, management of file permissions
►
Ensure design and deployment of a Controlling Software to identify parts of the network which
are causing issues in order to undertake corrective action
►
Oversee testing of the designed networks, network technology, network security systems &
network OS to ensure their efficacy & ability to deliver on organisational requirements
►
Ensure all dependencies, priorities and risks are managed across the project; Keep a track of
the project budget and investigate reasons for deviations, if any
►
Provide inputs on the performance evaluation of contracted SIs/ Consultants
►
Ensure removal of bottlenecks and hurdles for the smooth advancement of activities
►
Ensure complete knowledge transfer from various Consultants/SIs
►
Ensure resolution of technical issues/ queries of the SIs
►
Provide technical guidance to the O&M team for upkeep & maintenance of the Hardware and
Network infrastructure
People Development
►
Take an active role in recruitment of incumbents into own team
►
Conduct formal performance appraisal and provide developmental feedback for own team
►
Identify training needs of subordinates and provide functional training inputs through internal
and external sources
Others
►
Ensure timely preparation of MIS and Status Updates for circulation to the Top Management
and other authorities as may be required
►
Provide technical support to the Vendor/ Consultant Team etc. as & when required
►
Ensure adherence to the departmental budget

Key Attributes & Skills:
► Min. B. E. / B.Tech (IT) / MCA with 10- 14 years of experience
► 6- 8 years of experiencein the design and implementation of large-scale, multi-tiered,
heterogeneous IT infrastructures/Data Centres
► Expert understanding of leading Compute, SAN storage technologies and networking and
Security platforms
► Experience in building enterprise infrastructure architecture covering backend storage platforms,
servers, user-end infrastructure network etc.,
► Experience with Hardware and Operating System design, configuration, integration, and support
► Experience in using industry standards, technology standards and architecture frameworks in
building the architecture blueprints and their implementation
► Experience in implementing the portfolio or program management tools and adoption of the same
► Experience in Vendor management, change management in designing the structure and/or
executing those programs in an organization
