Hanover High School: Educate for Excellence
“Hanover High School students will be successful in a global community.”
Dear Hanover High School Community,
Fine Arts: Phew! Our Fine Arts teachers and students have been VERY busy these past
few weeks! We have been treated to an amazing art show as well as wonderful band,
chorus, and orchestra performances! And, of course, we all greatly enjoyed the recent
theatre production, Our Town. I am constantly amazed by the talent of our students and the
ability of their teachers to develop this talent. Hats off the entire HHS Fine Arts department
on another wonderful year!!
Grant Winner: Congratulations to Mr. Chad Taylor who has been awarded a grant from the
Hanover Education Foundation! This grant will allow teachers of German, French and
Spanish Levels I, II and III to introduce LinguaFolio, a web-based digital learning and
assessment portfolio, to their students next year. Thanks to Mr. Taylor for the hard work he
put into writing this grant!
Senior Reminders: Congratulations to the many Seniors who were awarded scholarships
and other honors at last night’s Senior Awards! Through the generosity of our community,
our Seniors were awarded a total of $635,975 in grants and scholarships. WOW!
A couple of scholarships and names were inadvertently left out of the program at Senior
Night. Please allow me to acknowledge and congratulate these students:

Hanover High School PTSA scholarship recipients: Ashleigh Bryant, Adam
Farnsworth, Cole Farnsworth, Catherine Holl, Melissa Nelson, and Barrett White!

Hanover High School Faculty scholarship recipients: Annamarie Campbell, Anthony
Erb, Sarah Owen, Jonathan Marshall, Taylor Young
There are many fun, memorable events for our seniors coming up in the next several
weeks. It is very important to me that our students have the opportunity to enjoy these
events and to look back on them fondly. In order to make sure this happens, I am asking
parents to take a few minutes to talk with and advise your students about their plans. In
particular:

Remind Seniors that even though most of them will have the opportunity to finish
exams and the school year early, there are around 900 underclassmen who are
involved in exam reviews and exams through the last day of school. It’s imperative
that teachers and administrators are able to focus on instruction and safety for these
students. Therefore, once our Seniors are through with their exams, they are only
permitted on campus if they have appointments with faculty or staff members and/or
still have academic or graduation responsibilities to take care of. We enjoy having the
opportunity to see our Seniors and share in their excitement, but we do not have the
resources to safely supervise unplanned student gatherings or senior pranks at any
time.

Seniors attended a senior meeting on May 1st in which they received important
information about end-of-the-year events, particularly graduation. Please review this
information with them.
Senior Night Thanks: A BIG thanks goes out to the Hanover Education Foundation and the
PTSA for sponsoring the Senior Night reception last evening. Also – many thanks to Mrs.
Davis and her orchestra students for the beautiful performance during the reception. You
made the evening very special!
Reminder for Student Drivers: Per the agreement signed when purchasing their parking
permits as well as the HCPS Student Handbook (p. 71), students may not sit in vehicles or
congregate around them at any point during the school day. This includes arrival and
dismissal times. Upon arrival to school, students must head directly into the
building. Additionally, students should exit the parking lot once dismissed from their last
class. Student cooperation in this area is greatly appreciated as we work to insure student
safety and supervision.
Dress Code Reminder: Spring weather has finally arrived which means it’s time for dress
code reminders. Parents are asked to review this with their students.
