"Make your dreams happen"
SMALL FARMS EXPO
SUNDAY 22 MARCH 2015
"Make your dreams
happen"
The Huon Agricultural Society (HAS) has been supporting agriculture for more than70 years. Best known for
the Huon Show run in November, we also seek to support agriculture through avenues such as donations to
rural groups, farming education in schools, fodder relief and disaster planning.
We want to support people with a dream to produce and connect with people who are doing innovative
things in agriculture and horticulture so, to this end, we will conduct the inaugural Small Farms Expo at
Ranelagh on Sunday, 22 March.
The event will showcase all things "small holding" to highlight the varied ways to produce on small acreages.
We are inviting organisations, businesses and private individuals with a message for owners of small acreages
to take a site at the Expo.
What will happen on Sunday,22 March?
 HAS will provide free public entry to this inaugural event.
 HAS will advertise the event widely through the media (including lead-up advertising) as well as
manage event promotion and work with major media partners to promote the event.
 The event will have a strong ‘information’ focus and we have booked a large marquee for information
and celebrity speakers.
 Breed societies will be provided with a free space to promote the suitability of their breed for the
small holder (penning is available and animal displays are encouraged).
 Invitations to horticulturalists and other specialist growers to promote their activity, again invited to
attend at no charge.
 A poultry and other fowl sale will be conducted on-site in conjunction with the Expo.
 Those who value-add to their product will be encouraged to have samples and product sales.
 A range of commercial exhibitors will attend with equipment, products and services suitable for the
small farmer.
HAS is calling on all people who currently work their small acreage to come and share what they do.
Individual farms and breed/production societies who support activities suitable for small acreages are
welcome to be involved in the Small Farms Expo on Sunday,22 March at the Huon Show Ground at Ranelagh.
Other organisations and businesses with a service or product relevant to the small acreage are also
encouraged to take a commercial site.
It is very much envisaged that this will be a producer-focused event and event marketing will aim to
encourage people to bring their “dreams” and talk to people with the know how to help realise those dreams.
The event already has the support of the Huon Valley Council, the Tasmanian Framers and Graziers
Association, the Huon Producers Network and NRM-South, as well as the Huon Agricultural Society.
An application form is attached and should be returned by 9 March 2015 with appropriate site payment.
Please contact Mark Jessop, HAS Vice-President, for further information or to express your interest in hearing
more about this event – 0412430982 or email to: [email protected]
