Innovation and technology transfer are the keys to meet the societal and
ecological challenges and to secure future growth and prosperity in a
globalized economy. Innovation and technology diffusion ideally bridge
localities, countries and regions, creating high-end value chains and
connecting large corporations with SMEs and start-up entrepreneurs in
win-win relationships. At a national level and within regional
arrangements such as the EU, technology diffusion is explicitly
incentivized and promoted. However, competition between different
actors, and national interests often prevail and prevent spillovers and cobenefits on a regional and global scale.
The seminar will take a look at what aspects incentivize innovation and
technology diffusion, within different sectors as well as regional value
chains, and from an institutional, capacities and finance vantage point. A
special focus is on emission reducing technologies (green tech), and on
specific requirements of SMEs and start-up entrepreneurs as vital forces
of innovation, economic growth and job creation across G20 countries
and beyond.
This regional seminar forms part of a series of global seminars in the T20
process and seeks to stimulate discussion on the role innovation and
international technological diffusion can play in promoting global growth
and sustainable development. Participants will develop themes for
continued joint research, in order to put forward key messages and
policy recommendations to G20 Summit 2015.
