The remarkable diamond simulant used in our jewelry looks and behaves just like a diamond in terms of its brilliance, fire and longevity,
however there is one difference — the price!
The diamond simulants used in our jewelry are rated 8.5 on the MOHS scale of hardness compared to a diamond, which, with a rating of
10, is the hardest natural substance. The diamond simulants are cut using the same faceting technique and quality standard as a
diamond. The simulants are polished with diamond powder in the final stage for a lasting brilliance.

The stones used in Desert Diamonds jewelry are superior quality diamond
simulants and are the next best thing to diamonds. To the naked eye it is
impossible to tell the difference.
What is a diamond simulant?
Any diamond-like material, either natural or artificial, which is marketed as
a look-alike for a natural diamond.
How are they made?
The simulants used in Desert Diamonds are laboratory produced using a
chemical composition. The stones are individually hand-cut using the same
faceting technique as a diamond. This highly skilled process results in the
final shine, brilliance, precision of cut and longevity of the stone.
How are these different from other diamond simulants?
Desert Diamonds simulants are the highest grade diamond simulants
available on the market today and far superior to other synthetic
substitutes. Our stones are hand cut by diamond cutters and hand polished

Caring for Your Desert Diamonds Jewelry
Keep Your Jewelry Sparkling
Certain basic precautions apply to help to keep the
sparkle in your jewelry:
Remove your jewelry when pursuing outdoor
sports and activities, including gardening and
swimming, and when you are doing heavy
housework.
Avoid excessive impact against hard surfaces,
and contact with perfumes, cosmetics and
household chemicals.
Never remove jewelry by pulling directly on any
of the stones.
Caring for your jewelry
As with all jewelry, regular cleaning is important
as soaps, lotions and other everyday build-up can
reduce the brilliance of the stone.
To clean your Desert Diamonds jewelry, use
either a mild solution of 6 parts water to one
part ammonia or a commercially available nonabrasive jewelry cleaner, and apply with a very
soft non-metallic bristled brush. Ultra sonic
cleaning is not safe for many gemstones so we
advise against this method.
Professional cleaning and servicing (which
includes checking the setting and prongs) is
highly recommended at least once a year.

All of our 18k & 14k white gold jewelry and 925
sterling silver jewelry is rhodium plated to improve
its appearance. Sterling silver jewelry that has
been rhodium plated requires less maintenance.
The jewelry will not tarnish when the rhodium
protective coating is in tact.

Rhodium plating wears away over time - do not use
abrasive cleaners as this will wear away the
protective coating faster. To prevent jewelry from
tarnishing and help retain its luster, items should
be re-plated with rhodium every 12-18 months
depending on the amount of wear and tear the
item has endured.
Caring for Rose Gold and Non-plated
Silver Jewelry
Rose gold is a gold and copper alloy and has a
subtle and delicate color that may intensify
somewhat with age due to a slight, but attractive,
tarnishing of the copper. Rose gold cannot be
plated, as can silver and white gold, so a certain
amount of tarnishing is inevitable.
Exposure to the atmosphere and moisture hastens
the tarnishing process of both rose gold and nonplated silver jewelry. To reduce tarnishing and
keep your jewelry looking good:
A jewelry cloth is the most effective and safest
way of cleaning tarnished jewelry. Rub with a
lengthwise motion, avoid clean in a circular
motion because this may cause scratches.
To remove the tarnish from hard to reach
areas, use a commercially available nonabrasive jewelry cleaner and a very soft brush
like a child's tooth brush to get into the
crevices.
Using toothpaste or baking soda is not
recommended as these may be too abrasive.
To reduce tarnish, store your jewelry in an airtight protective bag made of tarnish proof
cloth or you can use a plastic zip lock bag.
Storing jewelry this way also prevents it from
rubbing against other surfaces which may
cause scratches.
Caring for Pearls
Pearls are softer and more delicate than other
gemstones, and can therefore be more easily
scratched, cracked and damaged. Substances such
as perfume and hair spray - and even natural body
oils and perspiration - can dull pearls' luster or
cloud their brilliance. Therefore your pearls may
require a bit of special care.
Apply perfume, hair spray and other cosmetics
before putting on your pearls.
After wearing your pearls, wipe them with a
soft damp cloth to remove any traces of
cosmetic products or body oils.
Wash the pearls periodically with a mild soap
and a soft cloth to remove any accumulated
build-up.
Because of their delicacy, pearls should be
stored separately, away from hard jewelry
items to prevent scratches or other damage. If
possible, store them wrapped in soft cloth or in
a soft-lined container, pouch or jewelry box.
Carat is a widely accepted measurement of gem
weight. Diamond simulants such as those used in Desert
Diamonds jewelry are heavier than natural carbon diamonds
due to their chemical composition. Therefore a 1ct diamond
simulant will look smaller than a 1ct carbon diamond.
To make a visual comparison between diamond simulants
and carbon diamonds, it is easier to use dimensions in
millimeters as a point of reference. As an example, a 1.75ct
round brilliant diamond simulant has a diameter of 6.5mm
and appears the same as a 1ct carbon diamond.

Measuring Your Ring Size
Ring sizing is not universal. There can be
some variance in determining a proper ring
size. Since wider rings fit more tightly than
narrow rings, the width of the ring you
choose can also be a big factor in how a ring
fits and feels.
Selecting a correct ring size is not as
straightforward as it might at first appear. For
one thing, fingers are not round. Also, we all
know that our fingers swell slightly in the course
of the day - for some people this can be a
significant change. On hot days our fingers swell
even more, while in cold weather our fingers
might seem to shrink.
Basic Finger Shapes
There are three basic finger shapes. Expressed
simply as thin, medium and fat fingers.
People who often have the greatest problem with
getting a perfect ring fit are those with slim
fingers, as once the ring is squeezed over the
knuckle, it is too slack on the finger.
Ring size
Medium fingers have a knuckle joint which is
slightly larger than the fleshy part above it where
the ring is worn. In this case, the ring should be a
close fit over the knuckle, but feel comfortable
to wear once it is in place. With a little luck, the
ring will not tend to slip around the finger, even
in the case of large or heavy rings.
With fat fingers, the fleshy part of their finger is
larger than the knuckle joint. In this case,
obviously the ring will slide over the knuckle
easily, but there is a slight danger that the ring

could slip off. To avoid this, it is better if the ring
fits slightly more tightly on the flesh than for
people with ―medium‖ fingers. It may be worth a
short period of slight discomfort with a new ring
to ensure a snug fit, as the flesh under the ring
will usually adjust slightly to the ring.
Measuring Your Ring Size
A ring fits well when it is no longer felt on the
finger. If you have a comfortable ring which has
a band the same thickness as the one being made
and will be worn on the same finger, then this is
your best guide. Use as a ring stick (cone) or
mandrel to measure the size of that ring.
Wider bands will need to be a little larger in ring
size than narrow ones because the wide bands
trap skin beneath them. Bands that have an
opening under a stone or in some other way allow
the finger skin to swell upward can afford to be a
little smaller than the same ring without that
opening.
The measurement for thin bands is taken from
the base of the band on the cone sizer. Thicker
bands are measured from the middle of the band
on the cone sizer.

your local jewelry store to get an
accurate measurement.
Resizing Rings
Some ring designs can easily be resized one to
two ring sizes without disrupting the stone
setting. However, some designs, particularly
rings with a number of stones such as eternity
style rings and pave designs, cannot be resized as
this may result in stones becoming lose or
possibly falling out.
Please be aware that if your Desert Diamonds ring
is resized by another jeweler, your Desert
Diamonds warranty will become void.

The following table reflects the size comparison used for the
manufacture of our rings. These measurements are exact for the US/
Canada Standard and approximate for the other sizing scales, since the
intervals in each system do not correspond exactly.

Collections are usually stocked in size 7 (N or 54),
but are available by special order in all sizes.
Ring sizing gauges and finger gauges as well as published charts, do not

Gold and Silver Quality
Only the highest quality metals are used in
the Desert Diamonds Collection. The gold we
use in our 18k&14kCollection is solid 18k and
14k gold respectively and not gold plating as
used by some of our competitors. Our 925
Collection is made from high quality rhodium
plated sterling silver.
Gold Karatage
A karat, when used with gold, is a measure of
purity. 24-karat gold is pure gold, but its purity
means it is more expensive and less durable than
gold that is alloyed with other metals. Different
alloys such as copper and silver are mixed with
gold for greater strength, durability and color
range.
The karatage of the jewelry will tell you what
percentage of gold it contains: 24 karat is 100
percent, 18 karat is 75 percent, and 14 karat is 58
percent gold.
Gold and silver quality
Europeans have long embraced 18-karat gold, or
750 parts per thousand pure gold, as their metal of
choice. In the United States, 14-karat gold, or 585
parts pure gold, is more commonly used.
All other things being
equal, the higher the
karat, the more
valuable the piece.
Jewelry made with
lower purities cannot
be compared to the

Gold Color
925 or Sterling Silver
Gold is actually yellow. Gold color is created by
mixing gold with other various elements to create
a gold alloy of the desired color. No matter which
gold color is created, the pure gold is always
present in the correct percentage. For example,
18k gold will always have 75% pure gold contained
in the jewelry, while the rest of the alloy can be
altered to create a different color.
Silver is a white and highly reflective precious
metal. Fine silver (99.99% pure) is generally too
soft to produce jewelry - while silver is very
malleable, it has poor resistance to pressure and
easily bends. For this reason, silver is alloyed with
other metals to increase its toughness and
durability.
White Gold
What jewelers refer to as white gold today is an
alloy of gold and a white metal – usually nickel,
silver or palladium (a member of the platinum
family).
White gold has a yellowish cast. The higher the
karat weight, the more gold there is in the alloy,
and the more yellow the cast appears. A very thin
layer of rhodium electroplating is used to make the
jewelry shine and give it a bright white look.
All jewelry in the Desert Diamonds 925 Collection
is rhodium plated in order to further strengthen
the metal and help prevent it from tarnishing.
Rhodium Plate
Rhodium is a metal that is part of the platinum
family. It is a hard, durable, silvery white metal
that is highly reflective. Rhodium can be
electroplated on precious metals (gold, silver and
platinum), to give it a shiny white surface. This is
known as rhodium flashing or plating.
Rose Gold

Sterling silver is often referred to as solid silver,
but it is composed of 925 parts pure silver in every
1000. This proportion never varies; it is fixed by
law. Sterling silver is hallmarked as 925. Sterling is
an alloy of silver containing 92.5 % pure silver and
7.5% other metals, usually copper to give it
strength, stiffness and wearing qualities, while at
the same time preserving the flexibility and beauty
of the precious metal.
Rose gold is a gold and copper alloy. It is also
known as pink gold and red gold. Since it is an
alloy, there is no such thing as "pure rose gold";
pure gold is yellow and pure copper is reddish. The
higher the copper content, the stronger the red
coloration. Rose gold has a subtle and delicate
color that may intensify somewhat with age due to
a slight, but attractive, tarnishing of the copper.
Rhodium plating does wear away
eventually. To keep your white gold
jewelry and 925 silver jewelry looking
its best, it should be re-plated with
rhodium approximately every 12 to 18
months, depending on wear and tear.
