Organized Crime and Conflict: What Implications for Policy?
Organized Crime and Conflict: What Implications for Policy? Thursday 16 April 2015 10:30 am- 12:00 pm Room 101 In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the nexus between organized crime, armed conflict, and political instability. Yet, much remains to be understood with regard to the nature of this link. Evidence gathered to date is limited and the dynamics and mechanisms potentially at play are often difficult to research and uncover. This panel proposes a closer look at this nexus to better understand the conditions under which criminal agendas have had an impact on armed conflict and post-conflict recovery and to outline strategies that should be considered to mitigate this threat. Organizers: John de Boer, Senior Policy Advisor, UNU-CPR Louise Bosetti, Research Officer, UNU-CPR Speakers: Jean-Luc Lemahieu, Director, Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Ambassador Dr. Ugljesa Zvekic, Senior Advisor, Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime Kimana Zulueta-Fülscher, Senior Program Officer and Head of the Democracy, Conflict and Security Unit, International IDEA All participants to the Crime Congress are invited to attend and ask questions to the panelists! https://twitter.com/UNUCPR Website: cpr.unu.edu
