In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the nexus between organized crime, armed
conflict, and political instability. Yet, much remains to be understood with regard to the nature of this
link. Evidence gathered to date is limited and the dynamics and mechanisms potentially at play are often
difficult to research and uncover. This panel proposes a closer look at this nexus to better understand
the conditions under which criminal agendas have had an impact on armed conflict and post-conflict
recovery and to outline strategies that should be considered to mitigate this threat.
