manganese mine.
UMK has been awarded a Mining Right over 15 000 ha of land to the north of a dynamic Kuruman.

Environmental Officer

This is a C5 position and the incumbent will be responsible to implement specified
components for the Environmental Management System, cost effective measures and comply
with Legal, and interested and affected parties requirement in order to ensure effective
Environmental Management.
Responsibilities will be to: • Enforce compliance with legislation and procedures • Setup
mechanisms to monitor environment impact e.g. water, electricity and pollutants • Liaise with
stakeholders e.g. Municipalities, Eskom, Government departments etc. • Conduct incident
investigation • Waste management and pollutants • Soil rehabilitation • Keep impact register
updated • Recommend alternative strategies to reduce environmental impact • Liaise with
Department of Mineral and Resources • Audit reports • Compile annual reports.
Minimum requirements: • Matric, Degree or Diploma in the field of Natural Sciences
or Engineering • Registered as a Professional Natural Scientist or Engineer • Minimum of
3-5 years’ relevant experience in the mining industry • Strong computer skills • Thorough
understanding of applicable legislation • Ability to work independently • Ability to communicate
across all levels and disciplines • Maintaining quality results • Systematic approach
• Committed to Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
Key performance indicators: • Develop and implement an environmental land and
soil management plan • Compile and monitor a biodiversity plan • Manage operational
water management activities • Ensure compliance with Mine Standards and Legislative
requirements.
Mine Planner

Reporting to the Technical /Production Manager, this D level position will be responsible
for: • short to medium term planning and scheduling for the operation • align short and
medium term plans to the life of mine • continuously explore opportunities for productivity
improvement by assessing mining production reports and practices • produce reports and
analyse trends • ensure that the right quality and quantity of ore is exposed and extracted.
Tasks and responsibilities: • Scheduling of detailed mine plans, detailed waste dump and
stockpile deposition plans by applying advanced mine scheduling software • Determining
equipment requirements to achieve the schedule • Scheduling infrastructure developments
(i.e. in-pit roads and ramps) • Updating schedules and plans on a weekly basis • Reconciling
actual surveyed production vs. geological model (same polygons) on monthly basis
• Reconciling actual surveyed production vs weekly plans vs. business plan • Producing
weekly planning document, reconciliation by compiling progress reports(forecast vs. budget
and actual vs. budget) • Partaking, supporting or executing various projects as and when
required • Providing relevant and specialised technical support to applicable stakeholders
• Ensuring and complying with safety standards guidelines, policies and procedures
• Interacting directly with production and quality control teams - ensuring planned ore qualities
and stripping ratio are achieved.
Minimum requirements: • National Higher Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering
• Up to 4 years mine production experience • Minimum 4 years mine planning experience
• Valid driver’s licence (EB/08) • Advanced knowledge of Datamine/Xact or similar packages
• Computer literate - Microsoft Office packages. Other Skills/Competencies: • Good verbal
and written communication skills in English • Must be able to work independently as well as
part of a team and enjoy high stress production environments.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a valid fitness test and must be willing to
relocate to Kuruman/Kathu area in Northern Cape Province on a permanent basis.
