All graduates will be positioned to find jobs. Training will be related to the hard rock mining. Almost one in every 16 jobs in Saskatchewan is supplied directly or indirectly by mining. By 2028, this number will rise to one in five jobs. Simulators will train underground miners at both entry and advanced levels. The simulators will assist in training for the “Master Driller Program”, which requires simulator time, as well as on-the-job skill demonstration for certification. Stanley DEWALT has shown tremendous support as an Official Supplier for approximately 14 contest areas at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) by providing Stanley hand tools and DEWALT power tools for competitor use. In addition, due to their financial support, SCC is proud to recognize Stanley DEWALT as an Official Sponsor of the Competition. Following SCNC, the tools used during the event are donated to eligible local schools through the Stanley DEWALT Tool Grant Program. This valuable tool collection is distributed among chosen schools through an application process. The tool package includes a variety of Stanley hand tools and DEWALT power tools such as cordless power tools, miter saws, scroll saws, and accessories. Up to six schools have annually received equipment for use in their junior or senior trade and technology programs since the inception of this partnership. The Tool Grant Program has proven to be a lasting legacy for the provinces in which the national competition is hosted. In addition to their support of the Skills Canada National Competition, Stanley Black & Decker has become involved as a WorldSkills Team Canada Gold Level Supplier. This partnership continues to grow and benefit young Canadian tradespeople leading up to, during, and after the Competition. This year, additional contest areas were added for northern students to compete in. High schools students showcased their skills in carpentry, baking, public speaking and welding. Post-secondary students showed off their skills in welding. Skills Canada Sask hopes to add more contest areas to the Northern Regional Skills Competition in future years and will continue to promote this excellent opportunity to students in Northern Saskatchewan. Gold medalists in all contest areas will advance to our 17th Annual Provincial Skills Competition, which will be taking place on April 16th and 17th, 2015 in Moose Jaw, SK. The integrated site will meet the career planning needs of all Saskatchewan residents from kindergarten to retirement, with an initial focus on youth in both provincial and federal schools, and those transitioning beyond high school. The site is a joint effort between the Government of Saskatchewan’s Ministries of the Economy, Education and Advanced Education, in partnership with the Saskatoon Industry-Education Council (SIEC) to support career development. Page 6 “Saskatchewan is home to a strong economy and a growing labour market that will have an estimated 95,000 job opportunities by the year 2017,” Minister responsible for Immigration, Jobs, Skills and Training Jeremy Harrison said. “SaskCareers.ca will be a great tool to help students learn about these opportunities, and connect with employers for in-demand careers. This will help to educate, train and develop a highly-skilled workforce, which is a key goal of the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth.” Building a skilled work force to meet the province’s growing labour market demands is one of the primary goals of the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth. Students, parents, educators and industry will all be able to use the site to connect to career opportunities and information, with the ultimate goal of helping students and job seekers find meaningful employment and educational opportunities. An integral piece within SaskCareers.ca is myBlueprint – an innovative career planning tool that allows students to investigate career and post-secondary opportunities, set career goals, develop an educational plan, and track their progress - all of which are important for future success. “The Ministry of Education’s investment in this project supports our priority to improve graduation rates and delivers on the promise to provide career development opportunities for students,” Education Minister Don Morgan said. “The most valuable feature of this tool is that each student can customize their plan, or 'blueprint', both in high school and beyond, to best fit their specific career interests and future goals.” The Ministry of the Economy contributed more than $1 million to the first three phases of the SaskCareers.ca website project, and recently approved $591,596 for further website development and evaluation activities. An additional $549,000 was provided by the Ministry of Education to support a three year commitment for myBlueprint software, resources and implementation in all Saskatchewan schools.
