International Business idea Competition 2015 Rules and Guidelines On the successful of BIC2014 at national level has led the University to once again organize the the International Business Idea Competition 2015 (IBIC2015). It will be happening again this year providing a platform for the students and lecturers to showcase their business ideas through creativity and innovation for various categories offered. It is proudly hosted by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kedah and organized by MASMED which is an entity devoted to support and facilitate entrepreneurship in the university. This competition invites all public and private universities, colleges and polytechnics throughout world in competing for the cash and prizes. The main objectives of International Business Idea Competition 2015 are: I. II. III. 1.0 To provide platform for participants to expand business contact with other participants from various universities throughout the world and various disciplines who have the knowledge and skills that could potentially be shared and used as a business oppurtunity. To promote healty competition among participants in nurturing the idea of entrepreneurship. To promote the noble spirit of entrepreneurship among participants both in university and after the graduation. GENERAL INFORMATION 1.1 All rules provided by organizer are fixed. 1.2 The decision made for this competition is final. 1.3 Target group/individual 1.3.1 This competition is open to any students in any dicipline in Public and Private Universities in Malaysia and throughout the world, Malaysia higher learning institutions (IPTA, IPTS, Polytechnic and Colleges) and the educators who interested to participate. 1.4 Advisor/Liaison Officer 1.4.1 An advisor acts as the coach and liaison officer to the host should be nominated and responsible to handle the students. This is not applied to the educators paticipate for the competition. 1.4.2 The advisor is not allowed to participate in the competition and will be not involved during the presentation time. 1.5 Venue 1.5.1 The competition will be held at SP Inn, Jalan Kolam Air, 08000 Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia. The secretatriat has the right to change the venue of competition. 1 1.6 Important Dates 2.0 1.6.1 12 June 2015 – Insitiutions that wish to participate must have completed and returned the registration form together with the payment of the competition fee. 1.6.2 13-14 September 2015 – Succeed business idea will be announced at the end of each category by ranking. PARTICIPATION 2.1 There are two (2) saperated track: 1) undergraduate students (team), 2) Lecturers (both individual or team may join) 2.2 No limited numbers of team restricted to participate in this competition but each team must be composed of maximum three for the students/lecturers to represent the institution. 2.3 The participant is required to enroll in the prescribed form by the 12 June 2015 so as to express their intention to compete for the award. Each group can compete for only ONE business idea in a category. 2.4 Multiple idea may be submitted for different category but each idea must be submitted as a saperated entry. 2.5 Any changes should be notified before 14 working days before the commencement of the competition. 2.6 Language 2.6.1 All idea, business plan, videos and presentation can be done in Bahasa Melayu or English. 2.7 The Organizer also reserves the right to hold or withdraw the participant if the idea is not genuine or change the rules without any prior notice. 3.0 CATEGORIES OF PRODUCTS Category 1 Category 2 Category 3 Category 4 4.0 : : : : Science & Technology Industrial product Creative & Innovative Products Agriculture, Packaging & Labelling of products Services EVALUATION 4.1 Each group will be slotted based on 4 main categories which are Science & Technology Industrial Products, Creative & Innovative Products, Agriculture, Packaging & Labelling of Product and Services. 2 4.2 The judges will evaluate all the products independently and the winner is chosen based on the judges scores. The decision is final and cannot be discussed. 4.3 The evaluation criteria include: 4.3.1 4.3.2 4.3.3 4.3.4 4.3.5 4.3.6 Originality Applicability Status – Readiness & Functionability Commercialization Presentation Practicality and versatility 4.4 Judges Selection 4.4.1 The judges will be selected from the business industry and also the members of academician from local universities which is not related with UiTM Kedah as the host of competition. It is essential that the evaluation made must have at least two judges with a wide area of knowledge and experiences in business enterprise and entrepreneurship education. 4.5 Judges Briefing 4.5.1 5.0 Before the evaluation starts of, it is crucial for the judges to understand their fundamental roles on how the assessment should be done. They have to act as a potential investor and this will determine whether they would or would not invest in the presented products. PRIZES 5.1 The representative of IBIC 2015 will hand over the prizes of medal and certificate of participation to the winning team after each category completed. 5.2 The winner is announced based on category and each winning category entitles to get: 5.2.1 Students Category 1 - 4 5.2.2 First Place Medal + Certificate Second Place Medal + Certificate Third Place Medal + Certificate First Place Medal + Certificate Second Place Medal + Certificate Third Place Medal + Certificate Educators Category 1 - 4 5.3 Each winning team will get the cash money, 1 medal, and 1 certificate of participation. 5.4 However, additional charge may apply for extra medal and certificate 3 6.0 ACCOMMODATION, TRANSPORT AND FOODS 6.1 All cost incurred for accommodation, transport and foods are not provided. 7.0 COMPETITION FEES 7.1 Any group who wish to participate in the IBIC 2015 is required to pay fee of RM350 per team of students and RM525 per individual/team of educators. 7.2 Payment should be made according to the instruction below: 7.2.1 Payment Method Kindly make the payment via any one of the following methods: Academic Institutional cheques/ Inter Bank Giro (IBG) / Banker’s cheques / Bank Drafts / Money Order / Government Local Order (LO) / Cash at Bendahari UiTM Kedah office (Personal cheques are not accepted) All cheques must be made payable to “Bendahari UiTM Kedah” Bank Transfer Information Bank Name and Address : Bank Account Number Pay to Swift Code City 7.2.2 Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd No. 71 & 72 Lorong Lagenda 1 Lagenda Heights 08000 Sungai Petani, Kedah 02020010021120 Bendahari UiTM Kedah BIMBMYKL Kuala Lumpur : : : : Please notify the treasurer by attaching the scanned version of bank transfer slip or receipt as a proof of payment (Please state name of participant) by email to [email protected], OR fax to +604-4562117 (Attn: Treasurer IBIC2015); OR mail to the following address: Treasurer IBIC2015 Research and Industry Linkage Division Universiti Teknologi MARA (Kedah) 08400 Merbok Kedah Malaysia 7.3 All payments are to be received before the competition starts.
