The presentation will start with the evolution of the Singapore energy market reform, from full vertical integration to the current liberalised market model to drive technological innovation and economic efficiency to exert competitive pressure on energy prices for the benefit of consumers. Our energy challenges in the local context of high dependency on fossil fuel imports, and geographical/land constraints which make us renewable-energy disadvantaged will also be discussed, followed by the key strategies and initiatives to promote secure, competitively priced and sustainable energy supplies to meet our energy needs. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Soh Sai Bor is the Director of the Market Development and Surveillance Department and the Economic Regulation and Licensing Department in the Regulation Division of the Energy Market Authority (EMA). As a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, EMA’s main goals are to ensure a reliable and secure energy supply, promote effective competition in the energy market and develop a dynamic energy sector in Singapore. With EMA for over 10 years, Sai Bor has extensive regulatory experience in respect of the Singapore energy (electricity and gas) sector. He was involved in the development and liberalisation of the current wholesale and retail electricity market. His current oversees the monitoring and further development of the energy market to promote effective competition as well as the economic regulation of natural monopolies in the electricity and gas sectors.
