Message from the Chairman
It is that time of year again when Spring is around the corner and the
gardens begin to look fresh and new. Gardens are not the only area
where new is to be found, we are soon to have a General Election, the
local Council is also having elections and last but by no means least, the
whole of your Parish Council is up for election. There are some present
councillors who will be standing for re-election, but some will be standing
down. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those not seeking
re-election for their hard work in making this Parish a good place to live,
and to wish them well in their future endeavours. This is also the last
Parish Newsletter which will be delivered through your letter box. In
future, there will be a monthly newsletter published on the Parish Council
web-site, which will enable the Parish Council to keep residents more
informed and up to date with what is happening in the Parish. On a
general note, the Parish Council have received a number of complaints
about the inconsiderate parking of contractors’ vehicles when work is
being carried out on properties in the Parish. We would ask that if you are
employing tradesmen of any type to do work on you property, then please
ask them to park with due consideration to other residents and not park in
private car park areas or in a manner which will obstruct or inconvenience
other road users and definitely not to park on verges which will result in
damage to the grass. Hope you have a good Spring and Summer,
John Biddlecombe

INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
LOW FLYING MILITARY
HELICOPTERS
Enjoy being active in your local
community?
Have you got a couple of hours free
every week?
We have agreed that representatives
from RAF Odiham will be attending
the Parish Council meeting on 8
June to explain the reason for low
flying helicopter activities in this
area.
Please come along to listen to their
presentation and questions and
answer session that follows, if you
can. That meeting will be held at
Henry Beaufort School.
Social isolation and poor nutrition are issues that
affect significant numbers of older people. This is
an opportunity to provide regular social contact to
older people by way of a befriending visit
alongside their Meals on Wheels delivery.
Befriending visits will take place around lunch time
on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. They will
be a chance for you to provide regular social
contact; ideas on simple healthy snacks and
meals; and information on what’s going on in your
local community. Training and full support will be
provided.

Friendship volunteer and to support older
people to remain independent:
Winchester Villages Trust
Based on an ancient Littleton charity, the Trust is
able to make small payments to Littleton residents
only who need items or services that are not
available from social security or other statutory

PARISH PLAYGROUND RENOVATIONS
Improvements to the two playgrounds in the
Parish continue. We have now installed a
new cone climbing frame at Littleton and
finished painting all the existing equipment
there. A new wooden climbing trial has just
been installed in Bradley Road where a new
additional bench has also been placed from
Littleton. We are also in the process of
organizing painting of all the equipment there
as well as having all the rubber matting
replaced, so that should make it much more
pleasant for everyone to use the facilities
there. Thanks to all who have helped or just
given us input on these renovations. If you
have any further ideas on how we might
improve these facilities please let us know.
Dog Fouling
Many parishioners, walkers and sports facility
users continue to voice concern about the
problems of dog fouling on the Parish playing
fields and Recreation Ground, both in Littleton
and Harestock. It is a real nuisance and a
potential health hazard and is quite
unnecessary. It is unacceptable and has to
be tackled somehow. We have recently put
some new extra notices round the playing
fields at Littleton to thank those who stop and
pick up as well as to remind others to do so.
We are aware that the majority of dog walkers
who use the fields do so responsibly, pick up
after their dogs and put the faeces in the bins
provided and we thank them for that. The
situation may be improving a little because of
this but we all have to be constantly vigilant to
keep our open spaces safe/clean.
