PLEASE NOTE: IF YOUR BUSINESS IS NOT REGISTERED FOR SASKATCHEWAN PROVINCIAL
SALES TAX, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FOR CASUAL/TEMPORARY SALES.
SASKATCHEWAN PROVINCIAL SALES TAX
Small Traders Exemption
The Provincial Sales Tax Act requires all businesses and individuals making retail sales in Saskatchewan
to become licensed and collect tax on the selling price of taxable goods and services sold. However, as a
matter of policy, businesses or individuals are not required to become licensed if annual sales are less
than $10,000 and the sales are made from the home. Small traders must pay tax directly to their
suppliers on the purchase of all taxable goods and services.
The $10,000 sales exemption does not apply when the business or individual participates in a trade
show. They will be required to become licensed and collect tax on the selling price of items sold. A
temporary licence/casual return is used for this purpose. Any tax paid to the supplier, on items sold at
the show, may be deducted from the tax collected the difference reported on the casual return.
For Trade Show Exhibitors
I am attaching a copy of a casual return/temporary license, which should be distributed to the exhibitors
at the trade show. This will enable all unlicensed exhibitors (residents and non-residents) to collect and
remit tax on any taxable items sold at the show, or to pay tax on promotional items where the tax was
not paid to the supplier.
All vendors participating at a trade show must complete and return the casual return form and tax
collected no later than 30 days following the show. If they are already licensed with our office, the tax
should be remitted on their regular return forms.
The following items are exempt from Provincial Sales Tax:
 Food and drink products
 Books and magazines
 Children’s clothing (17 years and under)
Note: non-prescription drugs and food supplements are taxable.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
