Advanced Project Management: Action Learning and Case Study Workshop OVERVIEW: The objective of this training workshop in advanced project management is to guarantee participants gain a pragmatic and comprehensive guide to managing projects by applying project management tools, techniques and strategies in real-‐time. This workshop will allow participants to apply the principles of project management to an experiential case study. Participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and applications needed to effectively manage a project in a simulated project-‐based environment. Participants will also develop the capabilities to develop and use key project management documents. 1 LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Participants undertaking this training workshop will gain the holistic knowledge and skills in managing projects of varying size scope and complexity, using good practice. Upon completion of this workshop participants should be able to: • Strategically apply project management processes and techniques to a real-‐life project • Apply key techniques for planning, estimating, monitoring and controlling and closing projects • Develop a project charter and conduct a project kick-‐off meeting • Develop project requirements, scope management documents and governance arrangements such as a change-‐control board • Develop a work breakdown structure, WBS dictionary and build a project schedule using technology tools • Estimate project costs by identifying and quantifying cost drivers • Identify and analyze risks and develop risk response plans • Implement risk strategies in meeting the challenges of contract management. • Apply project close-‐out procedures 2 PROGRAMME OUTLINE: This course in project management will allow participants the opportunity to apply the principles of project management to an experiential case study using action learning process and a Project-‐ Based Learning approach. Participants will be able to practically exhibit the knowledge, skills, attitudes and tools and techniques necessary to effectively manage projects in a simulated project environment. The topics that will be covered include: • Strategic and technical principles of project management • Introduction to the case study • Project charter and meeting management • Project planning, scheduling and control • Managing stakeholders • Risk identification and response • Critical path analysis and schedule compression • Contract management and contract administration • Earned value management • Project budget development and cost control • Final team presentation LEA 3 TARGET GROUP: This programme is specifically designed to benefit project management professionals. FACILITATOR’S BIO-SKETCH: DR. JOSEPH ISHMAEL KHAN This workshop in advanced project management is designed and taught by a world-‐class project management facilitator and practitioner. Dr. Joseph Ishmael Khan has over 17 years of project management teaching and consulting experience and is one of the highly rated facilitators in the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business executive education programs. Dr. Khan offers real-‐world project management insights based on his practical experience leading and consulting as a project management consultant on small and large-‐scale projects in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas and Suriname.
