Overview:
The M-1 RAIL Operations Intern will provide overall support to the executive leadership team and contribute to the daily
office operations and strategy implementation of the M-1 RAIL Woodward Avenue Streetcar Project. He/She will work closely
with the Director of External Relations and Executive Assistant.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical, organizational and communications skills. He/She should have an
excellent mathematical aptitude along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel. This candidate will thrive
in a fast pace environment while being attentive to details. This opportunity is open to high school students entering their
juniors and senior year for the 2015-2016 academic year in addition to 2015 graduates. Applicants must live in the
City of Detroit.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide assistance to the Project Management Leadership Department

Perform inventory management
Field phone calls/emails
Assist in meeting preparation and wrap up activities
Perform database updates
Participate in meetings to assist in meeting minute preparation
Participate in meetings to help in strategy development
Assist in the development of educational outreach curriculum
Participate in weekly site inspections
Participate in development and execution of transit ridership survey strategy
Provide assistance to the Finance Department

Prepare basic account reconciliations and journal entries
Prepare bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account reconciliation to assist with month end close
out

Qualifications:
Required:
o Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2013, Intermediate knowledge of Excel
o Customer Service Skills
o Academic background comprised of a strong Math curriculum with classes successfully completed in the following
areas
 Algebra
Accounting
 Business Mathematics
 Economics
o Strong attention to detail
o A minimum of a 2.5 GPA
o Detroit Residency

Anticipated Work Schedule and Other Job Specifications:

M-1 RAIL is a non-profit organization formed in 2007 to lead the design, construction and future operation of a 3.3-mile
circulating streetcar along Woodward Avenue between Larned Street and West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan.
Mission:
The mission of M-1 RAIL is to create a catalyst for investment, economic development and urban renewal that positively
impacts the entire region through the construction of a streetcar circulator system running along and connecting Woodward
Avenue from the Riverfront to the New Center and North End neighborhoods.
Vision:
The M-1 RAIL Woodward Avenue Streetcar project is envisioned to be one element of a future modern, world-class regional
transit system where all forms of transportation, including rail, bus, vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian, are considered and
