Montague Art & Craft Society Inc. May 2015 www.macsartnarooma.com.au Ask not what MACS can do for you, but what you can do for MACS. General Meeting to be held at the Cottage on Wednesday 3rd June 2015 at 1 p.m. MACS Cottage Gallery/Studio 92 Campbell St, Narooma NSW 2546 (behind the Kinema) PO Box 182, Narooma NSW 2546 Cottage phone 4476 5397 [email protected] www.macsartnarooma.com.au Easter Exhibition The 34th Annual Easter exhibition was a resounding success, thanks to the efforts of the organising committee and the membership generally. All seemed to hop in and lend a hand. Didn’t the hall look great, there were many comments and all of them favourable! I do feel that Don Shortridge and his team will be a hard act to follow. From the President We’ve had a busy couple of months, with the Easter Exhibition, the Oyster Festival and the River of Art but that doesn’t mean you now rest on your laurels. Workshops and regular activities still continue. My thanks to the MACS members who gave up their time to impart their knowledge to all interested parties. The big news is our move to the big shop at the plaza. If you have yet to see it, I urge you to make the effort, It’s well worth it, Judy and Chris have done a great job. The next general meeting is on the 3rd of June and we have an interesting guest speaker, Jane McLuskey, who will talk about her time on Kuala Lumpur. See you all there. Remember, the following meeting will be the Annual General Meeting. Please consider taking a more active role, even to the extent of taking office! Valerie Tippins Newsletter Irene Berry has taken over the Newsletter from Marg Moran for the last few months left before the AGM where a new flood of volunteers will appear to share the load. Please send any items that you would like included in the next Newsletter to [email protected] with the subject line For Newsletter. Thank you. General Meeting to be held at the Cottage on Wednesday 3rd June 2015 at 1 p.m. 1 Latest happenings Works on Paper Exhibition The Works on Paper Exhibition was held at the same time as the Easter Exhibition and attracted many entries as well as many visitors. New Plaza Gallery - As most of you will have noticed the Plaza Gallery has moved from the little shop in the corner to the huge shop at the opposite end, just near the stairs down to the supermarket. Our Plaza Gallery managers and others have done a fantastic job of getting it up and going so quickly. We have recently received a donation of display boards and will probably need some burly blokes to help move them around when the final layout is decided. Thanks go to Chris, Dorothy, Judy, Marg, Dick, Tony, Colin, Viv, Giovani, June and absolutely everyone else for their support and assistance. Oyster Festival The Oyster Festival took place on 2nd & 3rd May this year. Many MACS members led by Viv Bowe-Wood, Judy Glover and Dorothy Noble gathered plastic bottle tops and turned them into the Fantastical Octopus which was a great hit at the festival and can still be seen at the Plaza Gallery. River of Art During the River of Art Festival, held 15th -25th May, we had quite a number of activities including the Art Prize display at the SoArt Gallery and a number of interesting workshops many of which took place in the Cottage. There were also open studios, where some of our members and a few others opened their studios to all comers. Other members took the opportunity to join in the Creators Bazaar at the Moruya markets where art and craft people of the region displayed their wares. It continues to amaze just how much artistic talent resides in Eurobodalla Shire. Some of us had a fantastic evening at the ‘Beastly’ fashion parade. Well worth noting it in your diary for next year. Plein air (Outdoor) painting. Due to poor attendance and chilly weather the Plein air group is not meeting at present. 2 What’s on at the Cottage Executive Committee Members Regular groups and classes Mornings - 10am to 1pm Afternoons - 1pm to 4pm (unless shown otherwise) Members are welcome to join in Visitors are welcome to call in Cottage phone 44765397 Monday 10am Oil painting class - phone Cheryl Hill 4476 3358 1pm Knit-Wits & Sew & Sews group 7pm Portrait painting group - 1st Monday each month Tuesday Wednesday 10am Drawing 1pm Mahjong - contact Carmel McKay 4476 2790 OR Chris Knox 4476 5584 Thursday 10am Painting and Drawing with Ro Farrell 10am Mosaic group - fortnightly10am-1pm 1pm Water media group - 1st, 3rd and 4th Thursdays 1pm Chinese brush - 2nd Thursday each month Friday 10am Life Drawing group - every Friday Saturday Workshops - as organized.
