Last chance to register: 2015 FEED Conference
Deadline for RSVP: March 27
The 2015 Faculty Education, Enrichment & Development (FEED) Conference will take place on Friday,
April 17 at Egleston Children’s Hospital. Click to register by March 27. The full-day program includes
information on the promotions process and social media, and researchers can participate in a mock
study section plus learn about crowdfunding (and much more). Questions?
Call for postdoc participation in 3rd Annual Emory-Laney Graduate School Research and
Career Symposium
Postdocs who are not already judging posters or participating in other ways are asked to consider
attending attend the scientific sessions this Thursday, March 26. The attendees will be undergraduates,
graduate students and faculty from all over the United States, most of whom are from groups that are

Postdocs and students invited to attend, submit abstracts for Institute for Regenerative
& Reparative Medicine Symposium
This symposium at Georgia Regents University (GRU) on April 24th will focus is on moving translational
research into clinical trials. The goal is to provide an opportunity to highlight the regional translational
and clinical trial research by facilitating collaborations between groups at neighboring institutions and
providing links to GRU clinical research programs. Post-doc fellows and students are welcome to attend
and to submit an abstract to present a talk or poster. Read more…
Reminder: Call for abstracts and honors submission: Postdoctoral Research Day
Symposium
Deadline: March 30
The Office of Postdoctoral Education (OPE) will be hosting the Annual Postdoctoral Research Day
Symposium on Thursday, May 28, 2015. ALL Postdoctoral Fellows are invited to submit an abstract. Any
poster used in the last year or that will be used in the next year can be submitted. Submit your abstract
online today. OPE is also requesting postdocs submit their achievements over the past year. Please fill
out the form to be acknowledged the Symposium booklet.

Lupus Research Institute (LRI): New Research Grants for Novel Approaches to Lupus

The LRI invites applications for financial support for idea-driven, novel research projects relevant to
basic, translational or clinical investigation in lupus. Particularly encouraged are proposals that
encourage projects based on novel explorations of human lupus biology—innovative studies that use
human material to address the physiological, cellular, molecular and/or genetic basis of human lupus.

This award provides $30K per year for up to two years to junior investigators engaged in research
related to the gut microbiome. Supported research may include basic, translational, clinical or health

Award in Liver Disease

This award provides $90K per year for three years (total $270,000) to a young investigator studying
diseases of the liver. The award recipient will be acknowledged at the Research Recognition Celebration

This FOA encourages R03 applications, and expresses AHRQ priority areas of interest for ongoing small

Highlighted Researcher
R. Paul Johnson (Infectious Diseases)
Dr. Johnson is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and
Director of the Yerkes National Primate Research Center. Dr. Johnson’s research
focuses on the immunology of HIV and SIV infection, and his research on AIDS
vaccines has centered on analysis of protective immunity in macaques immunized
with attenuated SIV strains. In his free time, Dr. Johnson enjoys jogging, sailing,
hiking and spending time with his family and two dogs. Read more (you may need
