UPDATE FOR LION STATUES RESTORATION & PUBLIC DISPLAY County Administration Building (CAB) First Floor Corridor /West April 14, 2015 August 2014 BoCC motion: “Direct staff to prepare a blue sheet for the placement of one of the lions at the higher location at the proposed site (County Administration Building Corridor) and including restoration and have the second lion remain at Hague until further notice. Staff has discretion to restore both lions if it is cost effective.” (Note: The ‘higher location’ was noted since a previous display concept included one lion near floor level. Proposal now will display one lion at CAB) Issues to Consider for BoCC Decision What does BoCC wish to do with the Historic Lion Statues? Lion “B” and Lion “A”Lion “B” is in the best condition and recommended for restoration (first) ESTIMATED COSTS FOR CAB CORRIDOR LION DISPLAY- $4350 1. Estimate by Fine Line Architectural Detailing, L.L.C. for restoring the lion in best condition, on a base construction with faux finish is $1585, rounded to $1600. Also fabricate the missing tail for $600. 2. Additional components previously estimated by Facilities: $2150 (including protective display case, display documentation and artwork, lighting) 3. Other costs to Facilities, provided as in-kind service, for project plans, coordination/supervision, transportation from PW to restoration firm and then to CAB, installation costs POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES 1. Cost $6300Restore both lions for display of one at County Administration Building and returning one for display at Public Works 2. No Cost Alternative: Direct staff to leave the Lion Statuary without restoration in storage or display at Public Works/ Hague until further direction from BoCC & notify Historical Commission of no action on project FUNDING RECOMMENDATIONS Authorize use of funds from General Reserve • Should no funding be removed from the County Reserve, authorize staff to pursue funding from alternate sources in accordance with procedures in County Policy. The Historic Courthouse Historic Seal now displayed in CAB Auditorium was restored with funding donated by local historian Lion statues over each main entrance doorway STAFF RECOMMENDATION Receive staff report, and direct staff to proceed with A.) restoration and display of one lion at corridor of County Admin. Bldg. and B.) reproduce one missing tail for future Cost- $4350 ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATION ALT. 1: Approve additional expenditure ($6300 total) for full restoration of the second lion for display at Hague Public Works ALT. 2: No restoration for public display of Lions at this time
