Shoultes Elementary School “A Commitment to exCellenCe, trAdition And respeCt for diversity” Principal: Lynn Heimsoth Assistant Principal: Katy Rudolph 13525 51st Ave. N.E. Marysville, WA 98271 Telephone: 360.653.0640 Fax: 360.657.6609 April 24, 2015 Dear Shoultes Elementary Parents, Approximately a week ago, we notified parents about a potential case of luring by an individual in the community near Shoultes Elementary. Yesterday, the Marysville Police Department informed us that a person suspected in the incident had been arrested on unrelated charges and is currently in police custody. We do not have any more information about the disposition of the case. We will continue to focus on personal safety with our students. You, as parents, can also help. It is always a good idea to warn your children that if they see, hear, or experience anything unusual or threatening, they should report it to their parents if going home or teachers if they see it on the way to school. If your child reports something to you, please be sure to contact the Police at 911. We are working closely with the Marysville Police Department to ensure student safety and the release of information. We will continue to alert parents of any further developments in the situation. Sincerely, Lynn Heimsoth Parents and students should work together to review safety practices. Here are some tips to discuss: Students should walk with friends or buddies on established routes, not through wooded areas. Students should play in well-supervised areas. Reminder your student to check in with you regularly if not under your direct supervision. Develop a plan for what your child should do if approached by a stranger. Remind him/her not to approach strangers that call to them. Keep a distance or walk away and do not accept gifts/candy from strangers. Have verification telephone numbers/code words for stranger identification. Never get in the car with anybody, even if they are dressed in a uniform. Do not go with anyone who asks for directions or help or promises gifts. Call 911 after an encounter with a stranger and give police the license number. Students should immediately run home or to a familiar home if they feel in danger.
