FREE PLAY (Drop-In) LITTLE EXPLORERS (Drop-In) Join us for some interactive playtime with your child. This unstructured drop-in program is a great way to become involved in your child’s play. Build an increased sense of self, while also modeling social skills. Support your child through play. Recommended age: 0-6 years Children are eager to explore new things. We will be finding new ways to play using upcycled and unique materials that are not typically used in a play setting. Open-ended play allows children to express themselves freely and creatively. Come explore with us. You will go home with a sample of our creations and the recipe so that you can recreate the experience again at home. (Registration Required) ** This program is co-facilitated by a Public Health Nurse at our Knottwood Site. ** Do you have a new baby? Are you feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Whether you are a first-time parent, or have multiple children, you are welcome to join us to learn how to manage anxiety and anger, to improve communication, develop routines for self-care and promote healthy relationships. Babies are welcome in the program. Limited childcare for children aged 13 months and older is provided based on need. Mondays, April 20 - June 29 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. South West Site | Wednesdays, April 22 - June 24 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Knottwood Site Triple P (Registration Required + $25 refundable deposit) Count to Ten Anger Management (Registration Required + $25 refundable deposit) The Positive Parenting Program aims to foster strong parent-child relationships by empowering parents with tips, tools and strategies that encourage appropriate behaviour in their children. An adult education and support group for those wanting to learn effective ways to deal with anger. A strong emphasis is placed on helping children learn, develop and grow. Participants develop an awareness of how anger can affect their lives and those they love. Classes are available for parents with children ages 0 to 12. Childcare available based on need. Do you need ideas to make mealtimes happy times? Join an introductory discussion with other parents and a pediatric Occupational Therapist (OT) and a Registered Dietician (RD) to learn more about how your children grow and the development of eating skills. Come to this introductory workshop to help make bedtimes more peaceful. This workshop is for parents of children 6 months to 5 years of age. Join other parents and the pediatric Occupational Therapist (OT) to learn more about the many different factors that influence a child’s sleep routine, environment and positive sleep-time associations. Discover how to begin and continue healthy sleep habits. Thursday, June 18, 9:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Knottwood Site FAMILY SUPPORT WORKSHOPS (Registration Required) Bullying: Bullying can start as young as 3 years of age, and can have life-long effects on children. This workshop teaches parents and caregivers how to recognize early bullying behaviours and what to do about them. Thursday, May 28, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. South West Site Coffee Connections (Drop-In) Come and enjoy a cup of coffee - our treat. Bring your children to play while you connect with other parents and chat. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about anything from community events to parenting. MONTHLY HOME VISITATION A home visitation program to support participants in gaining child development knowledge and skills. Certified Parent Educators provide parents with practical information, education and support during the first 3 years of a child’s development. Visits are scheduled monthly based on family’s schedule. A $50.00 annual program fee is required. Families must live in Mill Woods or the Meadows. WEEKLY HOME VISITATION In-home support for first-time parents and families parenting for the first time in Canada. Families may join before baby’s birth or up to 2 years of age. The home visitation program focuses on the role of the caregiver and how to positively contribute to their child’s growth and development. Family Enrichment Workers assist in locating community resources while providing information on child development. Visits are scheduled weekly based on family need. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES & SERVICES DEVELOPMENTAL CHECK-UP: AGES & STAGES ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORT Are you curious to know if your child is developing typically and meeting milestones? Staff will assist you in completing the “Ages & Stages” questionnaire and offer tips and activities to try at home. Are you trying to navigate through the social service system? Do you need to know where to turn to help you find the answers to your most troubling questions? ONE-ON-ONE TRIPLE P Discover strategies on how to manage behaviour and promote your child’s development (up to 4 sessions). Tailored sessions include DVDs, informative handouts and discussion with a trained practitioner. Our One-On-One Support service will connect and support families and individuals with the resources they need through one-on-one consultations via drop-in, telephone, email or social media. We will assist in connecting individuals with other services and/or agencies by providing supported referrals. Available at all of our locations Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Call 780-413-4521 to ensure availability. WEEKLY SUMMER THEME CAMPS (Registration Required - $135 per week**) This summer we will be hosting 8 week-long theme camps for children between the ages of 5 and 12 (5-year-olds must have completed kindergarten) at both our Knottwood and South West locations. Each week-long camp will include one field trip (TBD - watch our website for final details) to locations such as the Edmonton Valley Zoo, John Jansen Nature Centre, Telus World of Science, etc. These camps will run Monday* to Friday (*excluding the civic holiday on Monday, Aug 3) from 9:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Two snacks will be provided each day, but children must bring their own lunch from home. Week 1 (July 6-10): The Great Outdoors Week 2 (July 13-17): Superheroes in Training Week 3 (July 20-24): Amazing Art Week 4 (July 27-31): Island Adventures **Reduced fee of $110 for Week 5 (Aug 4-7) Week 5** (Aug 4-7): Team Challenge Week 6 (Aug 10-14): Amazing Art Week 7 (Aug 17-21): Weird Science Week 8 (Aug 24-28): Superheroes in Training Initial registration will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. (or until camps are full) on the dates below: May 13 for our Knottwood Site camps (Reg. with be held at our Millhurst Site 5710 - 19A Ave) May 14 for our South West Site camps (Reg. will be held at our South West Site 25 Fairway Drive) If space remains after initial registration, please call or visit our Administration location to register. TEDDY BEAR PICNIC TOY LENDING LIBRARY The Millbourne Community Site has updated its Toy Lending Library. Members can borrow a variety of toys, dress-up clothes and games geared towards children ages 0 to 6 years. $5.00 annual membership fee. Tuesdays 9:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thursdays 1:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Mark your calendars for our annual Teddy Bear Picnic. Join us for an afternoon of crafts, games, healthy snacks, and Storytime with the Edmonton Public Library. Make sure you bring your swimsuits to enjoy the new splash park (dependent on weather).
