GRAPEVINE - Pine Island Cove
THE
GRAPEVINE
VOLUME 34...ISSUE 5
PINE ISLAND COVE -- MAY 2015
From your Board of Directors
As we close out this winter season, this will be the last scheduled Board of Directors’ report
until October.
Unfortunately, at this time we have been unable to close on the property adjacent to the Cobiac
Compound. This was due to some unforeseen funding issues that will have to be put off until
our October Membership meeting. At that time, all of our options will be presented.
When anything on the common grounds needs trimming, please let the office know and we will
take care of it. Especially trees!
With the approach of hurricane season, we need to be prepared to lower the Bass Lake water
level in the event a major storm is forecast to hit us. We will have to open up the cement filled
pipe and recap it with a locking cap.
The Board will only be meeting as needed during the summer, so if you have any issues that
need attention, please contact the office.
Have a great summer! — From your Board of Directors

THANK YOU . . .
I want to thank all of my friends and neighbors who sent cards, flowers and gifts of
condolences after losing my beloved Shih Tzu, Krystal, on February 28th. I appreciate the
phone calls, support and love you have all given me during my grief. The gratitude is deeply
felt at this very difficult time. God bless you all for your thoughtfulness and kindness.
Sincerely, — Jeanne Dumas
SINCERE THANK YOU …
Thank you to our neighbors and friends here in Pine Island Cove for the basket filled with
cards and donations in memory of our grandson, Benjamin Michael Andre.
Also, thank you “Walkers” for the beautiful fruit basket. What a wonderful surprise when we
returned to the Cove last month. Happy to live in such a wonderful and caring community.

LADIES’ LUNCHEON . . .
On an overcast day that turned brilliantly sunny, 39 ladies gathered at Doc Ford's, Ft Myers
Beach, for a most delicious lunch. Our 50/50 winners, besides our friends at the Pine Island
Food Pantry, were MaryAnn Thiel and Maggie Yarnell. Congratulations!
Anne Miller has graciously agreed to organize the May Luncheon as I am going out of town at
the end of the week. Location to be announced but she tells me it will be on the Island. Thank
you, Anne, for stepping in.

MAY POOL COMMITTEE NEWS . . .
It’s the end of the Winter Season here in PIC and many of you have headed back to your
northern homes. We wish those of you who have left, a fun and healthy summer! You will be
missed and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
As for those of us who remain, (the SUNBIRDS), we are looking towards a beautiful summer
and enjoying the pool even more. Longer days will give us the opportunity to linger later in the
day to avoid the heat of the sun in the afternoon. Summer days spent at the pool are quiet and
peaceful, and certainly more intimate.
We will be planning social events and enjoying the company of friends all summer long!
Thanks to all who came out to help with the latest deck and furniture cleaning: Marilee, Nancy,
Joan, Sheelagh, Dick, Charlie, Joe, Chuck, and Gary. We were able to put away some of the
cleaned furniture. During the summer we will continue to clean as needed.
If you would like to join the Pool Committee, please contact Carol Schmidt at 239-257-5735.

NIMBLE THIMBLE QUILTERS AND NEEDLEWORKERS . . .
Our season is just about over and many of our snowbirds have migrated north. We will
particularly miss Mary McKay, Alice Anderson and Marge Haggerty who have been long time
members of the group and will not be returning in the fall. Lots of hugs and good wishes sent
them on their way.
Our annual spring luncheon was a colorful sight. Members brought donations for the Pine
Island Food Pantry as well as items for our salad bar. Yummy desserts were in keeping with
our talented cooks. Bingo once again returned for our after lunch entertainment with prizes
awarded to winners.
Although our numbers have dwindled, members have brought lovely items for "Show and
Tell". Placemats, quilts and knit sweaters as well as blocks not yet assembled into quilts.
We are organizing a raffle quilt to be offered at next year's quilt show and planning projects/
classes. Heading that list is the mystery quilt, a popular project with our members. Our group,
however small continues to meet throughout the summer.
— Wishing all our snowbirds "happy trails" and safe travels.
