ADULT DAY PROGRAM Adult Services News M A R C H , IN THIS ISSUE: Parent FAQs February Highlights Staff Spotlight Members of the Month Upcoming Events Wish List 2 0 1 5 NLG Purchases 170 Lexington Road! On February 23rd we completed our purchase of 170 Lexington Road in Billerica! We continue the exciting work of preparing for the opening of NLG’s second School site and welcoming the first new students this summer. As we plan, we are taking advantage of this opportunity to continue to enhance the quality of our services and processes as we become one School with two sites. Our Adult Program benefits from our ownership of the building with reduced occupancy costs and upgraded building services as part of the renovation. In order to complete renovations and have the resources to add 40 students over the next few years we have embarked on a nancially, NLG benefits when those in our community connect us to their friends and family who may be able to contribute, help us gain access to foundation and corporate support, or help at fundraising events. Please contact Liz Martineau or Emily.Wheet 170 Lexington Road Campaign to raise $1,500,000 by the end of next year. We appreciate everyone’s support during this campaign. New Staff This month we are pleased to welcome three new Team Instructors and one new Team Support— Elyse, Emily, Lianne, and Lierin. more than 7 years of ABA practice. Collectively, they bring to NLG more than 16 years of direct care experience, and They started Friday, March 6, and will spend their first Emily and Lianne will join Group 1, and Elyse and Lierin join Group 3. week learning more about ABA and NLG, and getting to know the members in their group. All four ladies are excited to begin this new adventure, and look forward to meeting you. PAGE 2 Parent FAQs Q: Who should I contact if I have a question about transportation? anything we can do to assist you (e.g. noting arrival and departure times, etc.). A: If you have a question or concern about your child’s transportation, you should contact the transportation company directly. You should also contact your DDS coordinator. Q: What should do if I think my child needs a bus monitor? Please let us know if there is A: If you have a safety concern about you child, please contact their group leader right away so you can discuss the best solution(s). If you determine a bus monitor is needed, you will need to contact your DDS Coordinator to make the necessary arrangements. Have a question you think other parents would love to know the answer to? Email Robbie at Robbie.Frary @NashobaLearningGroup.org February Highlights Despite the snow and icy temperatures that February had to offer, our hearts were warmed by the generosity of the AS parents who donated a delicious treats table for Valen- tine’s Day. Our staff enjoyed a beautiful and delectable array of cakes, cookies, brownies, candies, and popcorn. THANK YOU to everyone—especially Tina Sylvester, whose elegant display would make Martha Stewart proud! February also brought us more extraordinary achievements by our member: Sean M. successfully completed communi- ty outings! Kevin D. did a great job recognizing his environment and vocalizing his needs! Robert L., Lily L., and Ian O. each independently asked for a break! All of Group 1 has done an excellent job working as a team and communicating with each other! Staff Spotlight—Group Leaders ADULT Group 1—Alyssa White Group 2—Dave DePetris Group 3—Lauren Howson Alyssa is currently in her last semester of the Masters of Special Education program at Endicott College. She will be eligible to sit for the BCBA exam after completion of her independent fieldwork. Alyssa is passionate about her work with NLG and particularly enjoys teaching functional life skills and seeing the members utilize their skills in the community. Dave is currently in his last semester of the Masters of Science—Applied Behavior Analysis Program at Bay Path University. He has been working adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for about 6 years and considers it a privilege to be working with your children as they grow into more independent young men and women. Lauren became Group Leader in February and has hit the ground running working to revamp the Skills Development room! She is finishing up her first year in the Masters of Science—Applied Behavior Analysis Program at Bay Path University. Prior to joining NLG a year ago, Lauren worked at NECC. SERVICES NEWS PAGE 3 Member of the Month—Paige excited to see old NLG friends, and has already made many new friends. Paige has also done well with meeting a lot of new staff. She is a pleasure to work with and we are excited to have her, and her incredible style, here at Adult Services. Welcome Paige! “Communication Paige started on March 2nd and has done a great job with her transition from the Day School. She has been leads to community, that Member of the Month—Eric is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing.” Eric has done a great job keeping his quiet voice, with and without music. He has also improved greatly toward independently stretching. Rollo May Way to go, Eric! Member of the Month—Louis Louis has been doing a great job asking for what he would like with minimal prompting. He has been staying on task, and as always, is so much fun to work with! Keep up the great work, Louis! Upcoming Events! Leprechaun 5K Shuffle and Fun Run 16th Annual Full Court Charity Challenge 14th Annual Bike-a-thon & Walk-a-thon The 3rd Annual 5K Shuffle and Fun Run benefiting NLG has been postponed until Sunday, April 19th. It will take place at 10AM at the Burlington High School. Bring your shamrocks and your sneakers, and cheer for NLG staff, students and members, and their families.
