Pasadena Home Tour
Vibrant Mid-Century Reimagined Emily LaMarque , ASID Emily LaMarque Design Studio Pasadena, CA 91103 818-571-7448 www.emilylamarque.com Challenge The east Arroyo home was purchased in 2011 from the original owner who left it in immaculate, but original condition. Original also meant dated, and as an interior designer I had a long list of requirements that I also needed in my own home. It had to be light and bright, fun and youthful, kid-friendly and easy to maintain, sleek and modern, and of course, beautiful. History To improve upon the floor plan layout, we borrowed space from a large existing den to create a new powder room, laundry room and master bedroom walk-in closet. Walls were removed around the kitchen, living and dining rooms to create an open, family-friendly great room. All existing mechanical systems were replaced and brought up to date. The garage was refinished to function both as an operable garage, but also as a sleek, airy home office. Additionally, the entire property was relandscaped to allow for easy, accessible southern California indoor-outdoor living. 22 Pops of white, including the white, high-gloss cabinets paired with durable Caesarstone brighten the space. Sapele wood floors throughout the home warm up the atmosphere and the bright, printed shades in every room add an element of casual fun. Graphic wallcoverings and artwork add to the modern, youthful vibe, while clean, modern lines throughout make the home feel decidedly ‘now’. New and vintage pieces mix together playfully, and ultimately many of the retro inspired design-elements reference the home’s original mid-century date. By combining comfortable furnishings, striking materials, simple yet luxurious selections, and a bit of sparkle and shine, this Pasadena home emanates a fresh, vibrant design that welcomes laid-back family living.
