What are post-graduate administrative fellowships and why are
they important to my career?
A C o l l a b o r at i o n o f
Fellowships (NCAF) is an organization
of fellowship programs and graduate
Post-graduate administrative fellowship programs are time-limited
(typically 12-24 months) full-time roles that emphasize learning
and leadership development in addition to completion of work.
Fellowships are widely viewed as a critical stepping stone for many
early careerists who aspire to senior leadership roles.
programs in healthcare management who
are working together to continuously
improve early-career development
opportunities for our next-generation
healthcare leaders.
An important part of NCAF’s work involves
creating a coordinated approach to the
CAHME
application process, as well as a set of
expectations for program applicants,
graduate program directors, and
administrative fellowships to uphold.
These expectations are spelled out in a
member-developed Code of Good Practice.
NCAF’s work is supported primarily through
membership dues, as well as underwriting
by the National Center for Healthcare
Leadership (NCHL). NCAF also benefits from
the support of the Association of University
Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA)
and the Commission on the Accreditation
of Healthcare Management Education
(CAHME).
We encourage you to learn

Why should I encourage my graduate program leaders to
participate in NCAF?
By participating in NCAF, your graduate program is demonstrating
its commitment to a national effort to continuously improve the
administrative fellowship process and the Code of Good Practice.
This commitment is recognized and appreciated by NCAF-member
fellowship programs, who are encouraged to consider this
commitment in their own recruiting and selection efforts. As a
student from an NCAF-member graduate program, you are also
eligible to participate in NCAF’s clearinghouse program at no cost
to you.
Why should I apply to NCAF-member fellowship programs?
NCAF-member fellowship programs agree to abide by the NCAF
Code of Good Practice, which includes guidelines designed to
support your ability to make an informed choice about the
fellowship that is right for you. NCAF members have made a
commitment to provide high-quality work and developmental
experiences for your career success and to work collaboratively on
efforts to improve administrative fellowships for all involved.
