LOCATION: LOVE TO MOVE STUDIOZ, 311 EAST HOLLY ST, BELLINGHAM WA Kumu Hula Manuiki Lono Biography Aunty Manu was born and raised in Koloa, Kaua’i of pure Hawaiian ancestry. She was raised on Hawaiian
traditions and customs. At the age of 9 years old, she received a certificate of hula from Aunty Ruby Ahakuelo.
During her intermediate and high school years, she danced with Uncle Joseph Kahaulelio. Aunty was a Kodak
Hula Dancer for 5 years and has recorded an album entitled “Halona”. She later became a Hau’oli Dancer with
Aunty Vicki II Rodrigues and Aunty Pauline Kekahuna and was part of that Halau when they went on to be
the first ever winners of the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival! She has entertained with the Marieterangi Family
(Paumotu) for many years not only as a friend by also as a member of that well-known Polynesian family.
Aunty Manu has taught hula all of her adult life. As Kumu Hula of Halau ‘O Lono, she conducts Keiki Hula and
Women’s classes, teaching chanting, oli, ‘ukulele, singing, ‘oleo, as well as offering hula and ‘ukulele workshops.
Aunty is a well-known adjudicator and has judged hula in Hawai’i.

Note: Students who are interested in taking both Ukulele & Hula classes receives a discount of $50.00
Hula Class Description:
 Instruction in Basic ‘Olelo Hawai’I (hula language)
 Basic hula steps with hand gestures
 Understand the history of the mele (mo’olelo)
 Instruction on proper hula attire
 Voice Instruction for oli and chanting
Beginner Ukulele Classes:
 How to form the basic chords of F, C, G
 Strumming the Hawaiian way
 Learn and sing the Hawaiian mele with correct
pronunciation and know the meaning
All new students will learn basic hula. A hula folder will be given upon the first day of hula. All students dressed appropriately for
instruction. Purple Hula Pa’u or skirt, will be discussed at the first class. Please wear black tee shirt. All hair pulled back into a neat bun
with flowers. No Jewelry allowed to be worn in class. Exception: wedding rings/bands.
Ukulele students, no previous experience required, but must have a ukulele.

Is a non-profit organization who offers Hula & Ukulele Classes to our community
Our mission is to preserve, honor and perpetuate the unique blend of cultures found throughout the Hawaiian
Islands
Encourages students to excel in what they’ve learn as an individual
Applicant, referred to as Students herein, are expected to the following:

Plan to arrive to class on time and to stay for the entire class period (or until dismissed) because random arrivals
and exits are disrespectful and distracting

Must attend all scheduled classes; no make-up class will be available

Provide the necessary costumes/materials and equipment as required for performance

Are expected to be professional and respectful of other students and instructors

Must adhere and comply with 501 c4 laws, under Northwest Hawaii Ohana

Be expected to perform at the 2015 Spring Hula Ho`ike at the Bridge of Aloha Festival on May 30, 2015

Individual instructors may have additional requests regarding classroom behavior. Please adhere to those as well.
INDEMNIFICATION and HOLD HARMLESS:
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Applicant shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless `Ohana and all its officials,
agents, and volunteers from and against any and all liability, loss, damage, expense, fines, action and claims including
reasonable attorney’s fee and cost incurred by us in defense thereof, asserted or arising directly or indirectly on account
of or out of acts or omissions of the applicant or applicant guests in any way related to the subject matter of the
application/agreement.
This release, indemnification and hold harmless provision applies to all damages or claims of any kind, including without
limitation, damage or injury to property or person that may incur during classes, from classes, performance or any other
halau function, or arising from the violation of any law or regulation.
