Akubra is the only major hat company making fur felt hats from start to finish, beginning with
the raw skins through all the processes of preparing the fur, forming the hood, dyeing, blocking
and pouncing the hat to the final trimming. Their control of the entire process allows them to
produce an exceptional quality of fur felt. The quality of Akubra’s felt is attested to by the fact
that they have no need for the colored powders used by many manufacturers to even out the
color and hide flaws in the felt.
We offer stock service on most of our more popular styles of hats. Those retailers taking full
advantage of our in-stock service are selling more hats, and a wider range of styles and sizes,
while keeping their inventory levels low. Our minimum order is just five hats and most orders
are shipped within 48 hours.
Our new lines and low sales volume hat styles are offered on a limited stock service basis. Most
small orders can be filled, but we do not carry sufficient inventory to fill large or unexpected
orders. Please contact us early if you anticipate a special promotion requiring large numbers
of any of these styles. We do receive shipments from Akubra almost every month, but have a
minimum four month lead time before receiving our orders.
We also offer our fine braided leather hat bands and chin straps to our wholesale accounts carrying Akubra hats. These accessories make excellent add-on sales — allowing your customers
to individualize their hats.

Akubra® Hats Akubra hats have been Australia’s quality hats since the beginning of the 20th
century, ever since Arthur P. Stewart set up to make a hat to meet the needs of this bustling new
colony. Australians in the earlier days, much like the Americans of the West, needed better hats
than the usual, and, like the Americans, they had to make them for themselves. Akubra hats
stood the test of life on the cattle stations and droving routes. Akubra hats still stand the test,
not only in Australia, but throughout the world. You will see them wherever you travel.
Akubra has an up-to-date plant, and a dedication to quality that comes only with an owneroperated company. Some of the distinctive features of Akubra hats are:
• Fur Felt The basic fur in a felt hat is the under-fur of rabbits, and the quality of this
fur is a prime factor in the quality of the hat produced. Fur from wild rabbits gives the best
quality. Akubra not only uses more wild rabbit fur in their hats than any other hat company,
but also a better fur, as they cut their own fur from the skins, keeping control of quality of the
hats from start to finish.
Akubra produces four felt qualities. Their standard quality, with a worldwide reputation for
durability, is offered in two finishes, the Imperial Quality, used in most of the standard hats we
offer, and the Superfine Quality, used in the Aussie Slouch. The Sydney is made from a lighter
weight felt, using a finer fur, with a finish similar to the Imperial Quality. Their premium
quality, developed recently for the Heritage Collection, is very much in the Akubra tradition,
a stronger, more dense felt for even greater durability, which also allows a finer pouncing for a
superb finish. Pliofelt is the new pliable fur felt used in Akubra’s Lifestyle Collection of packable hats.
• Reeded Leather Sweatbands The leather sweatband inside the hat is the only part
which touches the head and hence is the key to a comfortable hat. Good leathers are breathable, soft and absorbent. In the best hats the leathers are “reeded” in order to conform better to
the head. A reed, once a thin piece of rattan, but now commonly a thin plastic fibre, is encased
in an impervious ribbon of oiled silk or synthetic material, and attached to the bottom of the
leather. The ribbon helps to keep perspiration from staining the body of the hat. The reeded
leather sweatbands used by Akubra are made of the finest roan sheepskin, specially tanned to
ensure comfort.
• Great Australian Style These hats are genuine Akubras, made in Australia and built
for durability. Australians spend a lot of time outdoors. To protect themselves from the harsh
sunlight they wear hats as a matter of course, and they expect their hats to last. Australians give
hats rough treatment — fan the fire, water the dog, or gather the chooks’ eggs, an Akubra is
expected to handle it all, day in day out, year in year out. You can sell Akubras with confidence,

The Heritage Collection The Heritage Collection presents a line of
premium quality hats developed by Akubra®. The felt in these hats is
made from a select blend of specially graded furs of rabbit and hare
which permit a longer and more arduous shrinking process. This process develops 25% more shrinkage, producing a denser and stronger
felt, which in turn provides the basis for a superb pounced finish.
The leather for the sweatbands is tanned from selected skins, for an
exceptional quality. The bands themselves are cut wider than normal
to ensure the greatest comfort. The Heritage Collection hats are in all
ways premium hats in the Akubra tradition, superb long lasting felt
with outstanding leather sweatbands. The Heritage Collection styles
we offer are shown on pages 5 through 8,
Pre-creased Akubra® Hats All our standard pre-creased Akubra fur
felt hats have high quality reeded leather sweatbands, full linings, and
chin strap hooks set inside the crown for easy attachment of a chin
strap. The fur felt is Akubra’s Imperial Quality pure fur felt. See pages
9 through 17.

Pliofelt, a soft, pliable, pure fur felt deveoloped specifically for crushable hats. The crowns are unlined with fabric sweatbands to allow the

Open Crown Akubra® Hats Back when hat stores were common
most hats were sold with open crowns. The crease, or bash, would
be put in for the customer by the salesman at the time of purchase.
These days almost all hats sold have pre-creased crowns. For those of
you who still want to offer your customers an individualized bash, we
offer a number of open crown hats from Akubra. Either you or your
customer can shape the crown to suit your customer best, then, when
the hat is damp from the rain, make any final adjustments and let the
hat dry. See pages 20 through 24.

Banjo Paterson Hat The Banjo Paterson from Akubra’s Heritage Collection is a great
style suitable for town or country wear. The pre-creased crown has a wide center crease
with side dents in the front. The crown is 4 inches high at the front, 41/2 inches at the
sides. The brim is 23/4 inches wide, raw edge. The striking hat band, 1/2 inch wide, is
made from the skin of the Barramundi, one of Australia’s fine food fishes found in the

Lawson Hat The Lawson from Akubra’s Heritage Collection is a classic gentleman’s
sporting hat, great for fly fishing or field sports but equally at home in town. The precreased crown is 4 inches high at the front, 41/2 inches at the sides. The brim is 3 inches
wide, bound edge, with a slight roll on the sides. The hat band is hand braided kangaroo

Lightning Ridge Hat The Lightning Ridge from Akubra’s Heritage Collection is a classic hat in the best Australian tradition, a hat you can wear in the city or out in the field.

Cattleman Hat The Cattleman is the hat made by Akubra for the Australian Stockman’s
Hall of Fame, selected as the style typifying the hats used by the cattlemen in Australia.

Kiandra Hat The Kiandra, a town and country hat, is named for a town in the Kosciusko National Park in New South Wales. The crown, about 4 inches high at the front,
41/2 inches at the sides, has a center crease with front pinch. The hat has a 3 inch raw

Traveller Hat The Traveller is the Akubra to accompany you on your travels. It is the
no-worries hat — put it in your bag or briefcase, or in the overhead bin in the airplane.
It is made in Akubra’s new Pliofelt, a pliable pure fur felt. The crown is 43/8 inches high,

Adventurer Hat The Adventurer is our newest fedora, in the same general shape, style
and color as the fedora worn by Indiana Jones in the “Indiana Jones” movies. The open
crown is 51/2 inches, the raw edge brim is 31/8 inches on the front and back, 23/4 inches
on the sides. It is made in Akubra’s Imperial Quality fur felt in a mid brown color. It
is finished with a matching 11/2 inch grosgrain ribbon band. Fully lined, with a reeded

Bushman Hat The Bushman is the traditional Australian stockman’s hat, worn in the

Squatter Hat The Squatter, a classic Australian town and country hat, takes its name
from the men who took up large blocks of pastoral land in the outback under government license when Australia was first settled. These large landowners were often the rich
and influential men of the district and the Squatter, made by Akubra, reflects a little of

Sydney Hat The Sydney, named after Australia’s largest city, is a Fedora in a quality
soft felt specifically designed for this style. This is a true city hat you will enjoy wearing
anywhere. In the classic Fedora shape, it is supplied with an open crown and a 1 inch
ribbon band. It is usually worn with a simple lengthwise center crease and the front of
the brim snapped down as popularized in the 1888 play by V. Sardou. The fur felt is a
lighter weight felt, using a special selection of finer fur, but otherwise similar to Akubra’s
Imperial Quality felt. Fully lined, with a 21/2 inch brim, raw edge, and a reeded roan

of service, through sun and rain. There is no need to baby an Akubra, but
if you treat it with understanding, it will look better and last longer.
Do not pick up any hat by pinching the crown, either at the top or front. Pinching will flex
the felt, and eventually cause a hole or crack to develop in the felt. It is best to pick up the hat
either by the front and back of the brim, or by placing the thumbs inside the leather sweat
band at the sides with the fingers just touching the outside of the brim.
Rain or sun do not harm a pure fur felt hat. There is no need for plastic rain covers — these
merely keep the felt from breathing properly and so make your head uncomfortable. Do not
heat a wet hat. Heat will shrink the wet felt as well as the leather sweatband. Stand the hat
upside down on its crown, or hang on a hook in a cool place and let it dry naturally. Wet felt
retains the shape in which it dries, so make sure the brim and crown are properly shaped before
drying. Do not leave a hat standing flat on its brim, as this will distort the brim. Never put a
hat on the back ledge of a car or truck in the sun, as heat will shrink and damage the leather
sweatband.
Dust and grime are bound to accumulate on a hat under any normal conditions. Dust can
be removed by brushing with a soft brush. Always brush with the nap, in a counterclockwise
direction. Dust can also be removed by wiping the hat with a damp (not wet) towel.
Hat Stretcher This two way hat stretcher is robust and durable.
Tapered blocks of redwood fit against the leather sweatband to absorb moisture and maintain the hat’s proper shape and size when
stored. If your hats must of necessity be dried or stored under
warm conditions, regular use of the stretcher will be beneficial.
Three sizes are carried to fit a range of hat sizes. For a long oval we
suggest using one size smaller. Made in USA.
No. 3006 Felt Tape This felt tape can be placed under the sweatband to help fit in-between sizes. It may be cut to size to properly
pad-out the hat. There is no adhesive to inhibit transpiration. Sold
in rolls of 100 feet.

Braided Hat bands and Chin Straps Fine quality braided kangaroo hat bands and chin straps
add a special touch to your hat. These bands, our own production, are adjustable in size, and
are available in Natural Tan or Black. The natural tan darkens with sunlight. All widths are
approximate. These accessories, only available to our wholesale accounts carrying Akubra hats,
make excellent add-on sales — allowing your customers to individualize their hats.

simple six strand braid is used in
this band. Width is approximately

This braided band has a fancy
edge. 7/8 inch wide, 8 plait. Shown

No. 885 Doubled Round Hat Band
This neat conservative band is
formed of a doubled 4-plait round
braid in kangaroo, with two sliding knots for adjustment. 3/8 inch
wide. Shown on the No. 1611
Snowy River.
No. 859 Ridge Braid Hat Band
A ridge is braided down the center
of this band in an old Australian
style. 1/2 inch wide, 8 plait. Shown
on the No. 1611 Snowy River.
No. 835 Two Tone Hat Band
This hat band is in a fancy black
and tan braid recalled by one of
the older Australian whipmakers.
The band is available with either
natural tan or black edges. 7/8 inch
wide, 10 plait. Shown on the No.

No. 869 Chin Strap, 4 plait The
4 plait Chin Strap has two flat
ends to attach to the hat’s chin
strap hooks and a sliding knot.

Ordering Information
David Morgan is a family owned and operated company which has been distributing Akubra
hats in North America since 1965. Our efficient no-frills organization brings you stock service
of a wide range of Akubras at prices other brand names cannot match, for quality they envy.
Our minimum order is five hats. Fill-in orders to existing accounts for less than five hats will
carry a handling charge of $15.00. You may order by phone, fax or mail. Most orders are
shipped within 48 hours. We do our best to fill all orders from stock. However, if we are unable
to fill your order we will let you know and, unless specifically asked by you, will cancel orders
we cannot fill immediately.
Pricing: We require our retailers to maintain minimum pricing levels within 5% of the recommended retail price (RRP). Retailers offering value added services such as custom fitting,
shaping and accessorizing will find it easy to successfully maintain even higher margins.
New Accounts: Please include three trade references and a bank reference. First orders must
be paid with the order, or paid C.O.D.
Shipping: We ship by United Parcel or USPS with the hats nested to minimize your shipping
costs. Wholesale shipments are made Tuesday through Friday. Please allow at least two days for
shipment of larger orders.
Payment Terms: Net 30 days, no discounts allowed, F.O.B. Bothell, Washington. Overdue
accounts are subject to a monthly service charge of 1.5% (18% per annum). We will not process orders on any account over 30 days past due. Please pay from invoices. Statements are sent
upon request only.
