Philadelphia Enterprise App Challenge Release Final
PACT Announces Two Philadelphia Enterprise App Challenges
Connecting innovation with forward thinking enterprises to create new businesses
Philadelphia, April 13, 2015 — PACT, the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies,
today announced the launch of two Philadelphia Enterprise App Challenges: the PACT Wayfinding App
Challenge and the PACT Healthcare App Challenge. These competitions aim to connect top innovators
and application developers with the real business needs of today’s enterprises and, ultimately, create
new viable businesses benefiting a variety of industries including Healthcare, Financial Services and
Government.
**This program is funded [in part] by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic
Development**
For the PACT Wayfinding App Challenge, developers are asked to create wayfinding applications that
help visitors and members of the University of Pennsylvania community navigate and learn
about Philadelphia and the Penn campus. Using written, verbal, and/or visual cues, submitted
applications should provide information about one or more of the following - on and off campus:
current events, educational resources, historical landmarks, landscape, and public art.
The PACT Healthcare App Challenge is specifically designed to help chronically ill diabetes patients lower
medical costs through proactive condition management, such as improving their health behaviors (i.e.
medication adherence, diet, exercise, etc.). Applications must use one or more of the required
datasets provided.
The submission process for both competitions opens today, April 13th and will run until June 15th, 2015.
Voting and judging will run from June 18th to June 24th. The winners will be announced during a live
event at the end of June where finalists from each competition will take part in a live judging round.
Independence Blue Cross and the University of Pennsylvania are sponsoring the competitions. Both
sponsors have scoped a business problem and are challenging developers to produce applications to
address the issue. The challenge prizes will total in $85,000, with $30,000 to be awarded to the first
place application for each competition, and $10,000 to be awarded to the second place applications.
The judging criteria are based on a variety of categories: quality of idea, implementation of idea,
potential impact, and sustainability.
These competitions are open to individuals, and teams of individuals 18 years of age or older, as well as
organizations. For full eligibility requirements, refer to the challenge websites: http://pacthealth.challengepost.com/ and http://pact-wayfinding.challengepost.com/.
