This qualification provides students with the skills and knowledge required for working in
senior positions within the beef industry and may provide a pathway into further study. At
Emerald Agricultural College, students gain hands-on experience in cattle production,
cattle health and nutrition across the two working properties Berrigurra and Narayen. They
contribute to the daily operations of the breeding and finishing enterprise, as well as
learning horsemanship skills through mustering and drafting and business skills in the
classroom.

Career Opportunities
Graduates from this course may find themselves running their own Beef Enterprises, or
working as a Livestock Farm Supervisor. Farm Supervisors supervise breeding, feeding,
animal health, machinery and equipment use; direct and oversee staff activities; handle
budgets and supplies and carry out other general farm administrative tasks.
Course Structure
This course is designed to be completed full time at Emerald Agricultural College over one
semester. It provides skills and knowledge in areas such as animal health programs,
supervising feedlot operations, artificial insemination and fertility management of livestock,
operating within a budget framework, supervising work routines and staff performance and
planning a pasture management program.
Entry Requirements
For entry at Certificate IV level, the recommendation is completion of the Certificate III
course or equivalent, and/or mature age with current or prior work experience.

Residential Accommodation
The Emerald campus provides single study bedrooms for
up to 150 students. Rooms are fully furnished and
serviced weekly. Each residential block has a common
room, fitted with a television, kitchenette and dial-in
telephone. A full laundry service is provided with coinoperated machines available for out-of-hours use. A
range of rental, share and full board accommodation is
available in the town of Emerald for students who may

How to Enrol
We suggest students attend a course selection meeting to determine your unit choices and
career pathways. The meeting can be done at Emerald Agricultural College or over the
phone. To help us determine your best course options, please provide us with a copy of
your birth certificate, school results and any other documentation which may assist our
discussion. Please contact the College directly to arrange a meeting.
You will be provided with an information package containing enrolment form, course
outline and payment options. To confirm placement within the program you will need to
complete the enrolment form and pay a deposit of $150.00. To hold a place for
accommodation at Emerald Campus an additional $150.00 deposit is required.
The Emerald Agricultural College year is made up of 2 semesters.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL may provide you with exemptions. RPL takes into account any previous study, work
and life experience against the competencies being studied. Please read the list of courses
for this program and consider if you wish to apply for RPL. There is an administrative
cost involved to RPL.
