Preschool Special Education Teacher (Rochester, NY) TYPE OF POSITION Full and Part Time position available as a Preschool/UPK Special Education Teacher in an integrated setting with itinerant teaching options. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of a collegial and diverse team in a highly professional, integrated preschool community. Become a part of a nationally accredited organization offering the highest in quality early care and education using an evidence-based curriculum and truly developmentally appropriate practices to address. Within this climate, a successful candidate will be supported in the use of strong therapeutic methods and provided with opportunities for continued professional growth and leadership roles. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES • Plan and implement the daily classroom curriculum/program and activities in coordination with the General Education Teacher in this integrated classroom. Included would be activities consistent with the HighScope Curriculum and the New York State PreKindergarten Foundation for the Common Core • Maintain an attractive, orderly, stimulating, and safe classroom environment. • Evaluate the growth and development of each child on an on-going basis, utilizing assessments provided by program and district. Maintain files on each child to include developmental progress and any other pertinent information. • Write individual plans for children based on the above assessments. • Hold formal parent conferences twice annually and more frequently when appropriate. • Communicate daily with parents regarding the day’s events and happenings. • Maintain daily attendance records. Follow guidelines of the Office of Child and Family Services. • Demonstrate willingness to expand knowledge of teaching skills, learning styles, and other information that will enhance the level of support and care to children and parents enrolled in the program. • Regularly attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service workshops offered at RCN and in the community related to Universal Preschool Curriculum and early childhood learning • Set the example that supports and enforces classroom and agency policies. • Perform other duties as assigned by your Supervisor. --- more --- Preschool Special Education Teacher page 1 QUALIFICATIONS • NYS Certification in Early Childhood Special Education, (birth - 2nd grade) • Two (2) or more years’ experience with children, and one (1) year specific to Early Childhood Education and/or Special Education preferred • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office software. • Must pass required criminal background check. • Regular walking, standing, kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting on the floor, and carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds. • Bilingual (English/Spanish/Nepal) a plus, but not necessary.
