The Level I District-Level Training Seminar for Literacy Promotion
The Level 1 District-Level Training Seminar for Literacy Promotion was held in
Karkala on 22nd of March 2015, under the guidance of DGE Dr Bharatesh and DLC
Chairman PDG Prof A S Chandrashekar.
The venue was Sri Bhuvanendra College, Karkala. The meeting was chaired by RC
Karkala Presiden, Rtn. E Janardhan.
The meet was inaugurated by DG Dr Bhaskar S in a unique manner by giving a gift
of books and pens to two school students of a Government school. ZLCC. PDG
Rajendra Rai from RID 3190 gave an overview of the entire program with specific
goals, action to be taken, impact assessment, etc.
The Distict Subcommittee chairmen then dealt with individual activities like:
• Organisation Structure ( DLCC PDG A S Chandrashekar)
• Teacher Support (Rtn. Siddappa, RC Sringeri)
• E Learning (Rtn. Chandrashekar Mendon, RC Manoor)
• Adult Literacy (Rtn. Abraham Varghese, RC Puttur City)
• Child development (Rtn. Dr Chandrashekar, N RC Gonikoppal)
• Happy School (Rtn. Rakesh Kumar Rastogi, RC Central Mysore )
• Volunteer Management (Rtn. Umesh, RC Shimoga North)
• WinS (Wash in Schools) (ZLCC Rtn. Rajendra Rai)
Rtn. Vinayak Prabhu was designated as District Communication Officer
The faculty team handled the subjects effortlessly and were successful in driving
home their views. The programme was well attended by DGE D S Ravi, DGN Dr
Nagarjuna, Innerwheel DLCC Mitra Prabhu, RCC Chairman Rtn. Yashvanth
Patwardhan, AG designates, and Zonal coordinators elected for 2015-16 and a few
host club volunteers (Total of 60 delegates)
The 2 district Secretaries for 2015-16 were present. They actively planned and
executed the programme with purpose and finesse
Overall the participants were made aware of the vastness of the program and the
many different ways Rotary can contribute towards a fully literate India. A Literacy
Manual which included data of schools in Karnataka was released by ZLC Rtn.
Rajendra Rai and distributed to all participants.
A half day level II Training Seminar will be conducted on 11th April 2015 at
Mangalore just before the PETS and SETS 2015. The Literacy Manual will be
distributed to all club presidents on that occasion.
