We Will Remember Them - Atherton State High School
We Will Remember Them
Atherton SHS students again reaffirmed their respect and admiration for the sacrifices of the
men and women who have served in the armed forces. Once again the students ran a moving
ceremony on Thursday then participated in the dawn service at the Avenue of Honour, the
Yungaburra service, the war graves service and the Atherton parade on ANZAC Day.
Junior Secondary Leadership Retreat
On Friday our Junior Secondary leaders attended a
leadership retreat at Tinaroo Environmental
Education Centre .
During the retreat, every student had to lead an
activity they had been tasked with using team
leadership steps. If not leading, the students had to
practice their team member behaviours. The team
leader/team member steps have been used by
students in the school context, and the retreat
allowed them to practice these skills in a practical
setting.
Activities included practical tasks such as bridge
building, through to completing a planning task to
identify lunchtime events for Junior Secondary
students.
Our thanks to Darryl and Bret at Tinaroo Education
Centre for inviting us to use their facilities and for
assisting with the facilitation of the tasks.
ASHS Cross Country at Avenue Of Honour
On Wednesday the
interhouse cross country
was run at Tinaburra.
Good luck to all runners
this Friday when they
contest the district trials at
Ravenshoe. Trophies will
be presented next parade.

New Online Parent/Teacher
Interview Booking System
As Mid Semester Reports were issued to all students on
Thursday 23 April, parents now have the opportunity to
meet face to face with teachers at Parent/Teacher
Interviews. Parent/Teacher interviews will occur on
Monday 4 May, 2015 from 3.10pm to 7.00pm in the
community hall. Atherton State High School is now using
an online booking system for parents to book their child’s
interviews. Your feedback regarding this process would
be greatly appreciated.
With student reports, a letter was issued detailing how to
book an interview online. Parents need to go to the
school website to the quick links section and
link on the PTO icon or link. Parents then need
to register and will then be sent an email with
a password. If you have any questions with
this process please contact Helen Carne Deputy Principal
or email [email protected].
Mid Semester Reports were also emailed to all parents
with active email addresses on Thursday 23/4/15 at
3pm. If you didn’t receive your child’s report via email,
please contact the Student Services reception on
40305266 to ensure that your email address is recorded in
OneSchool.

Cairns Brass Carinya Fundraiser:
Every year we are fortunate to have one of Australia’s finest brass bands - Cairns Brass – play for the Atherton community as a
fundraiser for Carinya Home for the Aged. This year the concert and brass band spectacular is on Saturday May 9 from
7:00pm. Not only do Cairns brass play, but local school and community bands also are given the opportunity to perform for the
community. On the night, the Atherton SHS concert band, Yungaburra SS concert band and Tablelands Regional Brass Band
will perform. This is the first opportunity for our Instrumental Music students to perform for the community and I encourage
you to come along and not only support the students from the Tablelands schools, but also enjoy the performance by Cairns
Brass. Entry is only $10 for adults and children are free. All funds are donated to Carinya.
