Job Description: Inclusion Assistant FOR: Salary : Grade C Point 10-13 (£14,338 to £15,941) pro rata (Starting point dependent on qualification & experience) Hours : 25 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (Attendance at some Parents’ meetings and occasional evening work for Open evenings and/or curriculum enrichment activities is required) Accountable to: The Assistant Principal, Inclusion Director ( All staff are required to work under the reasonable direction of the Principal and Vice Principals with delegated responsibilities). Performance Management: The post-holder will be subject to the Academy’s annual Performance Review process. A pay review will be part of this process. You are required to carry out the duties of a member of St Aldhelm’s Academy education support staff according to the ethos, policies and guidelines laid down by the Academy. Core Purposes: This is an important post within the Inclusion team of the Academy. The Inclusion Assistant will work with students identified with SEN or with low levels of literacy or numeracy in order to help them develop numeracy and literacy to an age appropriate level as fast as possible. The post holder will keep the Inclusion Manager, SENDCO and Inclusion Director informed as appropriate regarding identified students; help support effective liaison between staff, keep accurate records, support the administration of SEN and work proactively with students to support their personal development. Core Accountabilities: Drawing on knowledge of various forms of special needs, to develop an understanding of the specific needs of the allocated student(s) whom you will support. Taking into account the special needs involved, to aid the student(s) to learn as effectively as possible both in group and individual situations by: 1. Encouraging students to complete tasks independently and to use their own strategies to overcome their individual difficulties. 2. Clarifying and explaining instructions. 3. Ensuring the student is able to use resources provided. 4. Motivating and encouraging students as required. 5. Helping young people to concentrate on and finish the work set. To help promote the literacy and numeracy initiatives and programmes. To establish a supportive, trusting relationship with student(s) concerned. To develop, promote &reinforce the student(s) self-esteem and self-confidence. To record the student(s) progress following all tuition and intervention sessions To participate in the evaluation of the support programme. To provide regular feedback about the students who are supported to the subject teachers and Inclusion Manager. To advise subject teachers (and other professionals as appropriate) in developing suitable strategies for supporting identified student(s). To monitor the progress of an individual or group of students over a set period of time both in the Inclusion base work and in the classroom. To liaise, advise and consult with Form tutors and relevant staff To work with parents (and other professional as appropriate) in supporting identified students To work as part of a team, developing support programmes and participating the evaluation of them. To advise and assist in paperwork, reports and meetings for outside agencies To produce reports on students being supported by you when required To assist with Admission testing To assist with NFER testing Wherever appropriate, support relational links between home and the Academy. To liaise, advise and consult with other members of the team supporting identified students To attend relevant meetings. To undertake relevant training as required to support the functions of the post and to enhance personal development. This job description is not necessarily a comprehensive definition of the Post.
