KCTCS Blackboard (eLearning) Known Issues Current Build: 9.1.201410.160373 (9.1 October 2014 Release) Updated: 5/14/2015 Notes: -Items identified as defects are set to be resolved in a future release of Blackboard. It is not know in which release the defect will be resolved until that release has been made generally available. Patch content page 3/9/2015 Discussion Board A session error popup is displayed when trying to view youtube mashup thumbnail videos in a discussion board. This error is only displayed when the thumbnail option is selected. Defect/Awaiting Patch Set the Youtube mashup as a "text link with player" option or embedded video. Unavailable gradeable items are not visible in My Grades if ungraded. Prior to the redesign of the My Grades tool (in SP9 or older versions), the list of Grade Center columns included items that were also unavailable. With the new My Grades, unavailable items (items with AVAILABLE_IND of N) are not visible in My Grades. This presents a problem to users who have been using availability and adaptive release to manage when students are able to take tests. It is not until 9.1 SP14 that there is the ability to prevent users from accessing a date past its due date, without having to make it unavailable. While the items will show under My Grades once there is a grade assigned to them, users still want to have the item visible on the My Grades list. Defect 2/18/2015 My Grades/Upcoming Grades 2/5/2015 The Spell Check tool in the VTBE Content Editor behaves erratically when correcting a word that has been flagged as misspelled. Depending on how one goes about making edits, the tags inserted by the tool to flag misspelled words will occasionally remain after the word is corrected. If the misspelled word touches a correctly spelled word before or after it (space between is removed) or text is dragged/dropped or copy/pasted, the closing tag can end up inserted within the word, resulting in partial words being flagged. When this occurs, the tags are not refreshed when the spell-check is turned off and on. The words or partial Spell Check/Content words will be flagged by continued spell checks despite Editor being spelled correctly. None Available Defect/Awaiting Updated Content Editor Building Block None Available 2/2/2015 Grading/Grade Center Word wrapping breaks up words within Given Answer when grading essay questions via "Grade All" button on Needs Grading page. Word wrap is not working correctly within the Given Answer. Words are incorrectly broken up spanning two lines. The WIRIS Math Editor does not load correctly in IE. When you attempt to use the tool it is missing all of the button icons. Defect/Awaiting Patch None Available Defect/Awaiting Patch As a workaround you may use supported versions of FireFox and Chrome 1/27/2015 WIRIS Math Editor 1/27/2015 Users are receiving an error when attempting to edit individual course settings. If a user edits any course they are enrolled in via Edit Notification Settings>Edit Individual Course Settings then try to enter the individual course settings after editing it they receive the error "An error Defect/Awaiting Notification Settings occurred. Contact the System Administrator.". Patch 1/26/2015 Tests When editing test question answers the text editor does not Defect/Awaiting properly expand to see the full set of text editor options. Patch None Available As a workaround you may click the full screen mode of the question text editor to see the entire set of options. From here you may update the changes. The checkbox option in the Announcement creation window is specifically for overriding the user or system settings for email notification deployments and sends an email immediately to the users if checked. The checkbox doesn't control whether or not a notification email is sent to users, but simply when by overriding the notification settings. Users may change their settings for notifications including turning them off completely. SoftChalk Faculty will receive this error when an unsecure server address is added to their SoftChalk account: "Unable to connect to the server. All connection paths failed null". Please make sure the server address in the SoftChalk account is set to:https://elearning.kctcs.edu. Functioning as designed. 1/16/2015 Brainfuse 1/14/2015 Adaptive Release 12/19/2015 Discussion Boards After the recent update to Blackboard Learn the Brainfuse integration stopped functioning due to the Brainfuse building block (Bb plug-in) being incompatible with our current version of Bb Learn. Defect When adding or modifying an Adaptive Release Rule with a Membership criterion, a list of all users in the system is provided to select from rather than just the list of students enrolled in the course. The system allows adding non-enrolled users in the criterion for Adaptive Release. Defect/Awaiting Patch Expand all button does not work in Discussion boards with more than 11 replies Defect/Awaiting Patch System Wide/IE Internet Explorer generates errors when KCTCS.edu is included in the compatibility view list. 12/19/2014 Functioning as designed. As a workaround the tool has been added to the system as a LTI integration. Please click here to access a video demonstrating how to add the tool to your course. Your session may have timed out. If you have received this message in error, please contact your system administrator” when they attempt to submit an assignment. Changes are not properly reflected in the calendar when using Internet Explorer. Defect/Awaiting Patch Defect/Awaiting Patch Course List When doing a Course Copy and including the Discussion Board, selecting “include starter posts” leads to pop-up message and error when trying to de-anonymize the posts. Defect If you are enrolled in more than 99 courses, your course list will not load and you receive the prompt: “You are currently enrolled in too many courses to view them all here. Please Functioning as use the course catalog.” designed. VTBE VTBE spell checker turns off after entering a space. 1. If you click the VTBE spell checker button, it will highlight misspelled words, but if you type in a space, the words will become un-highlighted and you will need to run the spell checker again. 2. In the new VTBE, the browser's built-in spell check function cannot be used, which makes the above issue more problematic Defect Discussion Board Organizations Structures and themes are not available in an organization. Functioning as designed. Please clear your browser cache and attempt to resubmit the item. If you need assistance with this please contact the Bb Helpdesk. Use supported versions of Chrome or Firefox Do not include starter posts in Discussion Board when doing Course Copy. Select to leave the message anonymous in the popup message. Please see this PDF for more details. I have asked that Bb update the portal_max_course_enrollments_to_displa y value to 200 to resolve. None Available Enhancement request was submitted. Instructors may notice longer-than-expected processing time and larger-than-expected package files when exporting data from a course. This would affect exporting data from the Control Panel > Packages and Utilities > Export/Archive Course as well as from the Test/Survey/Pool Manager. 12/19/2014 In most cases, these symptoms are caused by assessments that have been imported into the course from a third-party application. These applications package files related to the assessments in a "ppg" folder. Unfortunately, the Blackboard application cannot distinguish what related data pertains to what assessment(s). Thus, when any Content Exchange import/export/restore/archive operation is run, the entire (import/export/rest "ppg" folder is included in the process, regardless of whether ore/archive) it pertains what the content exchange operation is targeting. Defect This behavior does not typically cause failure of content exchange operations, though it can undesirably count towards the course quota. It also increases processing time and the size of the package files. There is currently no approved way of cleaning up this data or preventing it from being included in content exchange operations. Developers of third-party products that provide assessment package files have the option of re-designing their software to use a packing format that does not suffer from this limitation. Resolved Issues Date Resolved 3/1/2015 Application Component Blogs/Journals Description Status Original Workaround Comments do not load on graded journals and blogs. None Available Some course tool links produce a permissions error after adding the tool(s) to a course menu. Tools affected: Cengage Resolved by Mind Links, McGraw-Hill Connect, WileyPLUS, Bb Cumulative Collaborate. The error is “The specified resource was not Update #1 found, or you do not have permission to access it.”. 2/8/2015 A high priority ticket has been opened with the Blackboard Managed Hosting team. Blackboard is currently investigating this issue. At this time there is not a workaround for this issue. Instructors may try doing a Ctrl A/ Ctrl V from Bb into WORD then save/print. Blackboard is working on a patch to resolve this issue. Course Menu Tool Links Bb is working on a patch to correct this issue. The workaround is to add a tools area menu link to the course then enter the tools area>click on the tool that is affected to access it. Click here to view a video demonstrating how to add a tools area.
