July 2006 ® NEW THIS MONTH: Victory for the Defending Champ– Tony Stewart The Home Depot ®/ Martinsville Win Raced Version 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Gordon’s Big Gamble Pays Off– The Jeff Gordon Foundation World Series of Poker 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo With summer in full swing, Action Racing Collectables is excited to introduce several sizzling hot cars driven by legendary racers. These special cars commemorate the drivers’ efforts both on and off the track. Featured on the cover this month, Jeff Gordon plays a hand with lady luck for a worthy cause. Gordon, Chris Moneymaker and Harrah’s joined together to support The Jeff Gordon Foundation with a new series of world class “No Limit Hold’em” tournaments. The Jeff Gordon Foundation was established in 1999 to support the physical, social and intellectual needs of children and their families. This exceptional die-cast piece recognizes Gordon’s humanitarian efforts off the track. Another legend being honored is Rusty Wallace, who retired from NASCAR® competition at the end of 2005. For the past 25 years, Rusty has captivated fans with his charisma off the track and his ability on the track. In honor of this racing icon, a new fantasy piece has been created with his image and replica signature. On his way to becoming a legend, Dale Earnhardt Jr. drives a classicallyinspired No. 8 Budweiser Chevy at the Michigan NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race to commemorate Father’s Day. This unique paint scheme is a throw back to the race cars of yesteryear. And honoring legends outside the NASCAR genre, the National Hot Rod Association 2006 Milestones Dragsters are now available for the champions Joe Amato, Kenny Bernstein, Shirley Muldowney and Don Garlits. Celebrate their success with these racing milestone fantasy pieces. So whether the race is over or still in full throttle, these legendary pieces will drive right in to your collection. As always, Motorsports Authentics is proud to offer you the best in die-cast collectibles. After a long day of trading paint with competitors, Tony Stewart took the checkered flag at the DirecTV 500 at the Martinsville Speedway marking his 25th career win and first of the 2006 season. Stewart, a past winner at the track, perfected his strategy at the 0.526-mile oval by protecting the car and remaining patient. To celebrate his victory at the famed short track, Stewart climbed the speedway fence while his fans cheered. This has become a ritual for the two-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion and a thrill for all Stewart devotees. To capture the excitement of the day, this raced win version die-cast features all the scrapes and scuffs that the No. 20 The Home Depot car suffered during the 500-mile race. At just over half a mile in length, Martinsville Speedway is the shortest track in the NASCAR circuit. Martinsville hosted its first NASCAR race on July 4, 1948 and is the only original NASCAR-sanctioned track still running NEXTEL Cup events. NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SPECIAL FEATURE 3 With all Jeff Gordon’s accomplishments on the track, fans may wonder what a NASCAR superstar does for a thrill off the track. Play poker with a few friends, of course. Gordon, poker champion Chris Moneymaker and Harrah’s World Series of Poker joined together to create a new series of tournaments to benefit The Jeff Gordon Foundation. The Foundation, named the 2006 official charity of the World Series of Poker, has supported such worthy causes as The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Make-A-Wish Foundation. The tournament concluded with a glamorous evening at Caesar’s Palace during the Vegas race week with poker pros, celebrities and fans all chipping in for a worthy cause. Gordon’s contributions to society prove this four-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Champion to be a hero on and off the track. The World Series of Poker is held at Harrah's Rio Suites, Las Vegas with the final two days of the main event concluding in its traditional location, The Horseshoe, in downtown Las Vegas. The coveted World Champion title is considered by all to be the ultimate achievement in any poker players career, for which they must beat out thousands of other players to win the title and a record breaking 7.5 million dollars. COVER FEATURE 5 Fans were saddened when Rusty Wallace, after 25 years on the track, pulled down his window net for the last time in 2005. Rusty’s career boasts some major accomplishments including the 1989 NASCAR Cup Series Championship and 55 career wins. Often called the master of short tracks, Rusty has a combined 16 victories at Bristol and Martinsville. In addition to his triumphs on the track, Rusty has always been a fan favorite known for his charisma on camera and his ability to remain cool under pressure. Even though fans are mourning his absence from the track, Rusty is hardly gone from the public eye, as he is now a car owner and racing analyst. Junior, who led during the race, took home third place on a track that had previously been elusive for the superstar. In observance of Father’s Day, Dale Earnhardt Jr. launches a new paint scheme on his No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet at the Michigan International Speedway. The paint scheme is quite a departure from his normal fire red. The schematic incorporates themes of yesteryear with a clean, cream color. Earnhardt Jr. previously raced a tribute to his father on Father’s Day in 2004, also at Michigan. Speed has not been a problem for Junior at the two-mile D-shaped oval, as he has two poles thus far in his Cup career. The demure No. 8 is a one-of-a-kind, as Michigan will be the only race with this paint scheme. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Budweiser/Retro Father’s Day 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1:24-scale. HOTO. NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SPECIAL FEATURE 7 On July 1, Jeff Gordon returns to the Daytona racetrack with a classic Super Hero aboard his No. 24 DuPont/Pepsi Chevrolet. Faster than a speeding bullet, Gordon will promote Superman Returns with a blockbuster paint scheme featuring graphics from the movie. Gordon also ran a Superman car in 1999 and has since won his fourth Championship title. Directed by Bryan Singer, Superman Returns stars newcomer Brandon Routh as Superman, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in this epic action-adventure. Superman’s bittersweet return challenges him to find a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space. The film opens in theaters on June 30. 8 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SPECIAL FEATURE Jeff Gordon ® DuPont/Pepsi-Superman Returns 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1:24-scale. HOTO. SUPERMAN and all related characters and elements are trademarks of and © DC Comics. The first Superman character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster was not a hero, but a villain. Their short story The Reign of the Superman concerned a bald-headed villain bent on dominating the world. The story did not sell, forcing the two to reposition their character on the right side of the law. The revised Superman first appeared in Action Comics in 1938. NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES SPECIAL FEATURE 9 THE STP NO. 43 RETURNS Two prominent names in NASCAR began an historic partnership in 2006. After many years with Joe Gibbs, Bobby Labonte made the move to Petty Enterprises racing the No. 43 Dodge Charger. Another Home Run On Nov. 20, 2005, Tony Stewart won his second NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Championship, making him one of the youngest drivers to have multiple championships. The 2005 season was a very successful one for Stewart who won five races, including the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. As an Indiana native, it was a monumental race for which he said he’d give up the championship to win. He also started a tradition of climbing the race track fence after each victory.
