TOURIST GUIDE
LÉVIS 2012
2012-2013
Lévis
The Lévis tourist offer includes both urban and rural
activities. These include agritourism tours, visits
to art galleries or museums, outdoor concerts by
international performers and the opportunity to go
biking or hiking along groomed paths or trails.
The city’s booming tourism sector is attributed to the
number and variety of major events being held here.
In 2012, you can enjoy a snowmobiling race, a range
of championship competitions, festivals and a street
event celebrating Hallowe’en. You can also explore
the region’s many historical sites, such as the A.C.
Davie Shipyard or Fort No. 1, an impressive structure
popular with visitors of all ages.
Situated right across the St. Lawrence River from
Québec City, Lévis affords a breathtaking view of
the surrounding area. The ferries between Old Lévis
and Old Québec make it easy for people to travel
between the North and South Shores.
With its diverse offer and unbeatable location, Lévis
is a must on your itinerary. If you need a place to stay
when in the area, you can choose from among the
many new or renovated hotels or first-class B&Bs!

Maison
Alphonse-Desjardins
Enter the warm and inviting home of Alphonse and Dorimène Desjardins,
where the first savings and credit co-operative in North America was founded in
1900. The Desjardins’ former house has been carefully restored to recreate the
atmosphere in the days when a visionary made it possible for the average citizen
to obtain a savings account. See how the Desjardins family lived as they gathered
around the kitchen table, in the office or near the piano, and learn just how
much they contributed to the economic well-being of generations of Quebecers.
A permanent exhibition comprising a rich collection of
objects, illustrations and photographs traces the origins
of the largest co-operative financial group in Canada.
A designated historical monument and recognized
museum.

PARCOURS DES ANSES BIKE PATH
Parcours des Anses is the most
well-known of the many bike
paths crisscrossing Lévis.
Known as one of the most beautiful linear parks in Québec City, the Parcours des
Anses is a 15-km (9-mile) multi-purpose pathway winding along the St. Lawrence
River. Cyclists, in-line skaters and pedestrians each have a reserved lane along this
entirely paved path.
A great way to get some
exercise!
Numerous landmarks figure prominently in the beautiful landscapes stretching out
before you: the bridges, the Québec City fortifications illuminated in the evening,
Château Frontenac and Île d’Orléans. You can rest at the many green spaces along
the bike path or go an open-air treasure hunt at the A.C. Davie Shipyard National
Historic Site of Canada!
Explore Saint-Nicolas by bicycle, where
you can admire the impressive heritage
buildings in this village founded over
300 years ago. If you get hungry, you can
make a “gourmet stop” to grab a bite to
eat. Be sure to visit the art galleries in the
area.
The Parcours des Anses is easy to get to, either by ferry or by following the blue signs
from Highway 20.

In Breakeyville, you can take a stroll along
the Chaudière River or ride your bicycle
through a wooded area. The Éco-Parc de
la Chaudière is a wonderful place to spend
a nice, quiet afternoon!
The bike path to the west of Lévis is called
the Parc linéaire du Grand Tronc. It runs
through a mostly forested area, connecting
the Lobtinière region to the Eastern
Townships.
To the east of the city lies Parcours
Harlaka, a new bike path nearly 15 km
(9 miles) long that links Parcours des
Anses to the Cycloroute de Bellechasse.
You will cross a forested and urban
landscape when travelling between
Charny and Saint-Jean-Chrysostome.
Here, you can make a stop at the Chutesde-la-Chaudière Park.

A.C. DAVIE SHIPYARD
NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
The year 1829 was a major turning point in the history of Canadian shipbuilding: the
Davie family established a shipyard in Lévis that would become one of the largest in
the country! The Davies then moved into their new home in Pointe-Levy and installed
a hauling berth, the first in Canada, to hoist ships out of the water so they could be
repaired beyond the reach of the tides.
Cast your anchor at the A.C. Davie
Shipyard and discover the historical
ins and outs of a great shipyard. The
site was once home to the Davies,
a family of entrepreneurs who
introduced new technologies to the
ship-building industry. The oldest
hauling ramp on the continent is
located here.
Take a tour of the A.C. Davie
Shipyard Historical Site, either on
your own or with a guide. See the
exhibition showcasing the skills of
the company’s workers and visit
Homestead, the 22-room house built
for the Davie family in 1832.
If you take part in the marine
heritage treasure hunt, you will find
the answers to the questions on
the interpretive panels and on the
building walls.
Land your boat long enough to enjoy
what the site has to offer. You can
admire one of the most beautiful
views of Québec City while having a
picnic in the shady riverside rest area,
which is located next to the Parcours

minutes away from the ferry terminal.
