CFA is a donor-centric, entrepreneurial foundation whose core purpose is to connect all generous people to the causes they care about. CFA benefits our communities, region and state through philanthropy via a three-fold service provision: (1) stewardship of charitable resources, (2) expert philanthropic services and (3) trusted civic leadership. Founded in 2000, CFA continues to illustrate strong growth. Our stewardship of assets increased over 10% since 2013 to $74.2 million. As of December 31, 2014, CFA has cumulatively attracted over $144 million in charitable and philanthropic gifts from the community and has made over $75 million in donor-directed grants to nonprofit organizations, churches, schools and public entities. This is a testament of the trust placed in CFA and the terrific generosity of the good people in our region. We hope you enjoy this report. We invite you to learn more about CFA and how we can serve you, your family and your company in satisfying your charitable and philanthropic objectives. Please call us at 337.769.4840 or visit our website at www.cfacadiana.org. Again, we thank you for your continued interest and support of Community Foundation of Acadiana. Sincerely, Alfred S. Lippman 2015-2016 Chairman of the Board Community Foundation of Acadiana 2 Raymond J. Hébert President & CEO Community Foundation of Acadiana CFA’s civic leadership was exhibited in early 2015 via the assumption of INNOV8 Acadiana, LLC, a Community Foundation of Acadiana company. Since its inception in 2011, INNOV8 Acadiana (formally INNOV8 Lafayette) has grown from an initiative of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce with a single annual event into an ongoing initiative with a series of events. Its overriding goal is to accelerate the entrepreneurial process and create and enhance entrepreneurialism in our region. Led by hundreds of volunteers and attracting thousands of participants, INNOV8 Acadiana inspires, connects and showcases innovators across industry lines to ultimately grow the rich entrepreneurial spirit our region currently enjoys and celebrates. We are proud to continue our civic leadership work with INNOV8 Acadiana and collaborate with key businesses and community organizations such as One Acadiana and LEDA. Each affiliate has its own board of directors that utilize CFA’s resources, infrastructure and professional management of assets as they strengthen philanthropy in Iberia and St. Mary parishes. A geographic affiliate provides a unique vehicle to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of a particular parish. If you are interested in learning more about establishing an affiliate in your parish, please contact the Foundation at 337.769.4848. 8 The Iberia Parish Foundation (IPF) was established in 2007 as Community Foundation of Acadiana’s first affiliate. Its local Board of Directors determines philanthropic objectives for discretionary dollars from its family of named discretionary Funds – to benefit all things Iberia Parish. The Iberia Parish Foundation supports the arts, education, community development projects and improving the local culture and tourism industry. “ The Leader In Me is a special project of the Iberia Parish Foundation, and we are proud to bring it to Daspit Elementary School in Iberia Parish. This would not be possible without the leadership of the Iberia Parish Foundation and the outstanding, collective generosity of Berard Transportation and anonymous donors. We hope to be able to benefit more schools.” Beau Beaullieu Iberia Parish Foundation 2015 Chairman of the Board Please visit www.cfacadiana.org/Iberia for more information. The Leader In Me The Iberia Parish Foundation (IPF) focused its philanthropic efforts on bringing The Leader In Me to a school in Iberia Parish after its strategic planning session in early 2014. The Leader In Me works to educate students and faculty on non-traditional aspects of success that are not typically taught in schools. It teaches students the self-confidence and skills they need to thrive in the 21st-century economy. The concept is based on the book, The 7 Healthy Habits of Highly Effective People, The Leader in Me by Stephen Covey, and is in use in more than 2,000 schools worldwide. The IPF Board of Directors invited schools to apply for The Leader In Me through an independent grant cycle. The grant applications and follow-up interviews led the IPF Board to select Daspit Elementary School as the pilot school in Iberia Parish for The Leader In Me. There is an investment of $80,000 to implement The Leader In Me over a three-year period. This public-private partnership is made possible through the Iberia Parish Foundation, Daspit Elementary School and generous donors. Additionally, Berard Transportation agreed to match dollars that have been raised to ensure The Leader In Me is implemented at Daspit Elementary school. The school will implement The Leader In Me during the 2015-2016 school year. IPF plans to bring The Leader In Me to other schools in Iberia Parish. 10 Iberia Parish Foundation 2014 Highlights TOP: Teachers and school representatives of Daspit Elementary posed for a photo with representatives from Berard Transportation and the Iberia Parish Foundation at The Leader In Me unveiling. The St. Mary Parish Foundation’s philanthropic focus is education, community enrichment and development. Please visit www.cfacadiana.org/StMary for more information. PHOTO BY WADE GUSSMAN “ The St. Mary Parish Foundation was honored to enter into a public-private partnership with the City of Morgan City for the Fallen Warriors Memorial and contribute $10,000 to the project. This Memorial is dedicated to those who gave their lives for our freedom, and we are proud to have such a wonderful monument in St. Mary Parish.” Greg Hamer, Sr. St. Mary Parish Foundation 2015 Chairman of the Board Fallen Warriors Memorial The Fallen Warriors Memorial Committee, in cooperation with and support of the City of Morgan City and the St. Mary Parish Foundation, unveiled and dedicated the Fallen Warriors Memorial on Veterans Day, November 11, 2014. The Fallen Warriors Memorial Project was spearheaded by a group of local veterans under the determined leadership of Terry A. Mayon, Sr. and Marc Distefano. The City of Morgan City entered into a public-private partnership with the St. Mary Parish Foundation, an affiliate of Community Foundation of Acadiana, to receive private, tax-deductible contributions to fund the memorial. The Memorial was funded through local fundraising events and corporate and individual donations. The St. Mary Parish Foundation also granted $10,000 to the establishment of the Memorial which features a monument, a Walk of Honor brick walkway and a Memorial Wall of Names on the grounds of the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium to honor veterans of the tricity area of Morgan City, Berwick and Patterson, Louisiana. The monument depicts three “Fallen Warriors”, each from a different era during the last 100 years: the World War I “Doughboy,” the World War II/Korea/Vietnam “G.I.” and the Modern Day soldier of Operations Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). The Walk of Honor brick walkway honors all veterans, both living and dead, with ties to the local area. The Memorial Wall of Names lists the names, ranks, branches of service and dates of death of the fallen warriors of the tri-city area. On the deck between the monument and the Memorial Wall of Names are memorial bricks honoring those service men and women who died of non-combat related injuries or accidents during wartime. This unique and permanent tribute honors the sacrifice of veterans and expresses the everlasting gratitude of its citizens. 12 St. Mary Parish Foundation 2014 Highlights PHOTO BY WADE GUSSMAN St. Mary Parish, Louisiana boyhood friends, Peter Anthony Manfre and Joe Governale (who, at this printing, is still living in Patterson, Louisiana), are U.S. Veterans of World War II. These ‘brothers in arms’ fought the Japanese on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It was there that Peter Manfre was killed on January 11, 1945. With little information, a heart-broken mother, Mrs. Lee (Geneva Guarisco) Manfre, wrote this letter to then Corporal Joseph “Joe” Governale in a desperate attempt to seek information and closure. This powerful story is one of many uncovered as a result of research for the Fallen Warrior’s Memorial, dedicated in Morgan City, November 11, 2014. 13 2015 Iberia Parish Foundation Board Of Directors Beau Beaullieu CoSource Financial Group, LLC Chair Beverly G. His passion was to teach everyone he met about his love for music and for the Cajun/Creole culture. He passed away in February 2014, and we knew we wanted to do something to memorialize him and continue his wonderful legacy. We created the Al Berard Memorial Music Fund at CFA to continue his passion of bringing Cajun music and culture to others. In November 2014, we held the Al Berard Music Festival in Henderson to honor our father and raise funds for the memorial fund. It was a huge success, and we are very thankful to the Foundation for helping to make all of this possible. They provided the necessary guidance and infrastructure to help us continue our father’s legacy.” Laura Berard Huval & Maegan Berard 17 2 0 1 4 F E AT U R E D F U N D S SCHOLARSHIP LPMSA Scholarship Fund “The Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance consists of physicians and physicians’ spouses dedicated to the health of Acadiana. The addition of this program to UL Lafayette has proven to be of enormous benefit to everyone at the University, and I’m thankful to have it as part of our academic community. The UL LIFE Fund at CFA was established by an anonymous donor and can receive tax-deductible contributions to help permanently secure this program at UL Lafayette.” James P. E. Larry Sikes of Darnall, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick (pictured above) is a participant in CFA’s Financial Advisor Program. CFA encourages philanthropy through the establishment of separate, named Funds. CFA is custodian of these charitable and philanthropic resources that help generous donors meet their objectives immediately and in perpetuity. This platform affords the creation of legacies for individuals, families, groups, companies, other foundations and nonprofits that can include multiple generations. Generally, donors select an investment strategy for the assets of the Funds established at CFA. An exception to this is CFA’s Financial Advisor Program. The Financial Advisor Program is an option for donors that prefer to maintain their trusted financial advisors or firms to manage the investments of the assets in their Funds. The Foundation works with professional advisors and their clients to meet their tax and charitable goals. Professional advisors maintain the core relationship with their clients and retain a fee for their services. Donors have secure, online access to their accounts and can allow read-only access to professional advisors as they choose. CFA’s Financial Advisor Program experienced continued growth in 2014. The number of Financial Advisor Program relationships grew by 31%, while the amount of assets in separately-invested accounts increased by 42%. Additionally, separately-invested accounts comprised 21% of CFA’s total investable assets as of December 31, 2013 (excluding real estate and other assets). “Part of my enjoyment in life is spending time on my boat in Bayou Lafourche while visiting friends and clients. As a certified professional advisor, I have clients in different parts of the country including south Louisiana. Community Foundation of Acadiana offers an attractive vehicle which keeps me engaged with my clients’ philanthropy, an important component of their overall financial planning.” Sam Spanos Raymond James Beaver, Pennsylvania 21 2014 Foundation Financials INVESTING YOUR GENEROUS RESOURCES CFA is focused on long-term growth of investable charitable assets and provides various investment strategies to help donors achieve their charitable objectives. The range of investment options includes, Aggressive Mix, Moderate Aggressive Mix, Moderate Mix, Catholic Values, Conservative Mix, Risk Averse and any customized allocation a donor chooses.
