This 1/25 scale model of the “Little Red
Wagon” was made famous in 1965, as the
first "wheelstander." The Dodge A-100
compact pickup was modified by putting
in a 426 HEMI® engine behind the cab, in
front of the rear wheels. Items such as the
heater, dash panel, front bumper, and
body sealer were removed and the doors
replaced with fiberglass versions.
When the throttle was applied by
owner and driver, Bill "Maverick" Golden,
it popped its front wheels into the air,
while still achieving acceleration. It
became a hit with fans, and ran at drag
strips throughout the US.

Hall Brothers Racing, Inc. is owned and
operated by Tim and Mark Hall. The Halls
have been involved in racing since 1978. The
Hall Brothers’ innovative design enabled
them to win the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006
Monster National Championships.
In 2005, for the fourth year in a row, the
Raminator Monster Truck took top honors as
Truck of the Year, at the Monster Truck
Racing Association (MTRA) banquet.
Tim is responsible for much of the design
work and his specialty is building and tuning
the supercharged, alcohol-burning Dodge
HEMI® engines, which are critical to successful monster trucks. Raminator’s championship pilot, Mark is also shop foreman,

responsible for fabrication and welding on the
trucks. Mark is instrumental in the design work
and in 2005 was named “Driver-of-the-Year”
for the fourth time in his career.
The Hall Brothers Race Team is rounded out
by race drivers Dale Benear and Geremie
Dishman. In 2004, the Rammunition, won the
2004 “Most Improved Team award.
Geremie, winner of the MTRA 2004 Rookie
of the Year, looks forward to 2006.
He claims having the power of an incredible
565-cubic-inch supercharged HEMI® engine
under the hood of the Rammunition can make
the difference between winning and losing in
these tight races. With no room to maneuver,
wins are often determined by inches. For more

Unassembled Plastic Model Kits
This faithful replication of an Old West
stagecoach, includes four horses complete
with harness, reins and hitch chains. A
driver and shotgun rider are included,
along with three passenger and hold-up man.
The model shown, built by Richard
Melillo, shows several creative details not
included in the kit to capture a 3-D
”Moment in Time.” After creating a base he
added actual mud, rocks and dirt. The arrow
is a straight pin with paper feathers. He
makes his own rope to “tie on” the luggage
by twisting together embroidery floss. He
added bits of metal tape to the wheel edges.
To make the shotgun rider appear to be
turning around, he manipulated body parts
before painting. After doing extensive
research, Richard “ages” his model with
paint to help tell the story exactly as it
might have appeared.

Historical Confederate Artillery

Unassembled Plastic Model Kits
At the Campaign of
Second Manassas
(August 27-September
1,1862), the Confederate
Army of North Virginia,
under General Robert E.
Lee, overran and
captured a Union
Artillery Battery. Major
General John Pope of
the Union Army of
Virginia lost twenty-six
of his best artillery men
on the hilltop known as
“Battery Heights”.
After the battle,
it was usual for the
winning side to take
and utilize the weapons
and any supplies available. It was a strong
victory for the South
and came as one of the
few they were to have
in the rest of war.

This “vignette” represents a true historical moment in the
American Civil War. These detailed replications include
three soldiers, cannon and four horses complete with
harness, reins, hitch chains and flags. Richard Melillo,
model builder, added details like the hole in the pants
of one of the Union riders, and splashed the riders and
artillery models with actual mud. Instructions are included
for making a flop hat and long pants (as shown on the

70817 Imperial Japanese Navy Submarine C-1 (class)
I-20 and the HA-20 Midget Submarine
The first shots of the Pacific War began when the USS
Ward sank the HA-20 with a shot from it’s 3” guns three
hours prior to the Pearl Harbor attack. Five mother subs
and their midgets where lying in wait at the entrance of
Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. The mother ships
I-16, I-18, I-20, I-22, I-24 all launched their midgets to go
into Pearl Harbor and sink ships. All were sunk except
HA-24, which grounded at Hickam Field Beach and was
salvaged and used as a US Bond drive incentive in
America. Its pilot was the first Japanese prisoner of war.
70818 Imperial Japanese Navy Submarine
C-3(class) I-53 with Kaiten “Kamikaze” Torpedoes
With modifications, the I-53 was converted into a
kaiten carrier in November, 1945. Initially, four kaiten
could be carried, later it was increased to five. I-53 carried
19 torpedoes with six each 21” torpedo tubes on the bow.
On July 24, 1945, in the Philippine Sea, a kaiten of
the I-53 sank the Navy destroyer Escort USS Underhill
(DE 682), the only warship sunk from this type of
weapon. I-53 survived the war, and was scuttled by the
US Navy off of Goto, Japan, in April, 1946.
The Japanese began development of the Kaiten
Commissioned in 1944, the I-53, one of three in its
class, was launched in 1943 from Kure Naval Dockyard.
C3 boats were fitted with inferior engines due to
wartime shortages, resulting in a reduced surface speed
of 17.75 knots and 6.5 knots submerged; however,
additional fuel tanks made it possible for long-range
cruises. A Japanese version of a snorkel was first used
on these class subs.

Total length of each mother sub shown is 58 ½ inches!
The mother subs, designed in the mid-thirties,
continued on in the war. All were refitted by the end of
November, 1941, to carry the Midgets to Pearl Harbor.
IJN I-20 was one of five C1 type submarines developed
from the KD6 (class). With a typical compliment of 101
crew members, they could cruise at 23.5 knots when
surfaced and 8 knots while submerged. The deepest they
could submerge was 330 feet. The after casing (space aft
of the conning tower) was reserved for the fitting of one
Type A midget submarine. The U.S. forces sank all, I-22
IN 1942, I-18, I-20, I-24 in 1943 and I-16 in 1944.
Detail of Type-1 Kaiten
(human piloted) Torpedo
(“Turning of the Heavens”) in early 1944. The kaiten
torpedo program was not accorded high priority until
after the Imperial Japanese Navy’s failure to defend the
Marianas in 1944. The kaiten featured the combination
of a Type 93 oxygen-powered 48’4” X 24” torpedo with
a large warhead guided by a human pilot. The warhead
contained a charge of 3300 lbs. of high explosive with
a maximum speed of 30 knots.
The first Kaitens required the pilot to enter while the
mother submarine was surfaced. Later modifications
allowed for entry through a lower hatch fitted in the
kaiten. Once inside, the pilot received target data by
telephone (with break-away line) before being launched.
Actual successes were few and heavy losses were suffered
as there was no way to return to the mother ships. It was
a “one way “ mission, part of the “Kamikaze — Special
Attack” tactics. All, a failed attempt, to destroy the enemy.

Airships
Unassembled Plastic Model Kit
1/245 scale
The Graf Zeppelin made its first trip to
the United States, October 11, 1928.
Carrying 63 people and cargo, it
averaged 56.6 miles per hour. The flight
lasted 111 ½ hours and covered 6,000
miles. On its return trip to Germany,
it made a record breaking time of 71
hours and 12 minutes — a new record
for airships.
The Hindenburg disaster proved to be a
fatal blow toward any further
development of the great airships. The
major hazards for these airships were
weather, fire, and the resulting explosion of burning hydrogen.
The Graf Zeppelin made its last
flight to South America in 1938 and was
retired and dismantled in 1939. The

Airships
1/ 245 scale
Unassembled Plastic Model Kits
The USS Los Angeles was a rigid airship,
designated as ZR-3. Built in 1923-1924 by the
Zeppelin factory in Friedrichshafen, Germany,
the original designation was LZ-126. The airship
was given to the United States by the German
Government, since it was partially funded by war
reparations from World War I.
The airship was commissioned into the U.S.
Navy on November 25, 1924, at Anacostia, D.C.,
with Maurice R. Pierce in command. At the same
time, it was switched over from hydrogen to helium
gas, which reduced payload but improved safety.
The USS Los Angeles logged a total of 4,398 hours
of flight, covering a distance of 172,400 nautical
miles (319,300 km) flying from the Pacific to the
Atlantic. It not only served as an observatory and
experimental platform, it was a training ship for
other airships.
On August 25, 1927, while tethered at the
Lakehurst high mast, a gust of wind caught the tail
of the Los Angeles and it was lifted it into colder,
denser air, just above the airship. The tail continued
to lift reaching an angle of 85 degrees. After finally
descending, the ship suffered only slight damage
and was able to fly the next day.
As an economy measure, it was decommissioned in 1932, and later re-commissioned for a
brief period after the USS Akron crashed in April
1933. Struck from the Navy list in 1939, and
dismantled in its hangar, the career of the longest
serving airship ended without disaster.
70821 USS Los Angeles Airship
LOS ANGELES was key in the development of
the low-mast mooring system for airships and
the technique of an airship-airplane hook-on,
in 1929-31.

Aircraft approaching ZR-3
for hook-on
The USS Los Angeles carried a light biplane
fighter aircraft, the Curtiss Sparrowhawk, which
was designed to be deployed from a larger aircraft. At 20 feet (6m) long and with only a 25
foot (7m) wingspan, the Sparrowhawk was ideal
for service with rigid-framed airships because of
its small size.
Although armed, its primary duty was
reconnaissance and observation, giving airships
it served on a much wider search area. For
launching, the Sparrowhawk would free-fall
from outside the airship's hangar, and for recovery, it would hook a trapeze in mid-flight and be
mechanically pulled into the airship.
