Information on the application of A11:2014 to EN 60335-1:2012
The publication of A11 to EN 60335-1:2012 implies an important change in the application of
the dow of this standard and the corresponding Parts 2. The intention of this A11 is to clarify
some possible doubts on if a Part 2 shall be applied with 2002 or 2012 version of EN 60335-1,
and the present document aims to help in this clarification:
- When reading A11, it could be interpreted that for Parts 2 already in force (dow
surpassed) the new Part 1 shall be applied. This is not correct always, as the
corresponding Part 2 could be not aligned with EN 60335-1:2012 and therefore the
application would be not feasible.
- If an amendment (A1 for example) to EN 60335-1:2012 is published, it shall be made
clear that it shall not apply immediately, but at the dow date of this amendment.
Therefore, CENELEC TC 61 on Safety of household appliances wishes to clarify the
following:
The dow stated in this EN 60335-1:2012 and its A11is applicable only when the Part 1 is
used to test products for which no Part 2 exists. This means that when a Part 2 exists, the
dow is the one mentioned in the relevant Part 2 or amendment of Part 2, under the
following conditions:

The dow of future amendments to EN 60335-1:2012+A11 will be decided on a caseby-case basis depending on the contents of the Amendment and on its relevance for
the parts 2;

if the Part 2 and ALL its amendments have been published before January 2012, EN
60335-1:2002 and its amendments may still be applied up to the dow of a new
edition or an amendment aligned to EN 60335-1:2012. The reason is that Part 2 is
still not aligned with EN 60335-1:2012;
-
if the Part 2 or ANY of its amendments has been published after January 2012, the
last version EN 60335-1:2012 and its amendments apply, except the following cases:
o EN 60335-2-16:2003+A1:2008+A2:2012
o EN 60335-2-27:2013
o EN 60335-2-40:2003+A11:2004+A12:2005+A1:2006+A2:2009+A13:2012
o EN 60335-2-44:2002+A1:2008+A2:2012
o EN 60335-2-45:2002+A1:2008+A2:2012
o EN 60335-2-51:2003+A1:2008+A2:2012
o EN 60335-2-66:2003+A1:2008+A2:2012
o EN 60335-2-81:2003+A1:2007+A2:2012
NOTE: Related to the exemptions above, if a new version or amendment is published later,
EN 60335-1:2012 and its amendments apply at the dow of the new version or amendment
of Part 2.

This amendment A11 modifies the European Standard EN 60335-1:2012; it was approved by CENELEC on 2014-06-16. CENELEC
members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the
status of a national standard without any alteration.
Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on application to the CEN-CENELEC
Management Centre or to any CENELEC member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre has the same status as
the official versions.
