It was quite fun to discover these
songs on that shore from composers
as disparate as Henry Mancini and
Jimmy Page to Elmer Bernstein and
Rod McKuen. I think you will find some
terrific performances within from
Aaron Weinstein, Bucky Pizzarelli, Tony
Tedesco, Martin Pizzarelli, Larry Fuller,
Jessica Molaskey and myself,
John Pizzarelli.

ENJOY ON YOUR
FAVORITE DESERTED ISLE.
This is a CD based on a
concept of our Executive
Producer, Paul Hanly. He
is a bit of a sentimental
sort and a lover of all kinds
of music. He can easily go
from discussing Jeff Beck
to Frank Sinatra or Jonny
Lang to Jessica Molaskey.
A true renaissance man is
he and a great friend.
That led us to our cover art and the idea
of the Pizzarelli Boys washed up on some deserted shore
and searching for some melodic answer.
Over a couple of Frescas one evening, he confided
in me this idea for a cd of songs that he has always
loved performed by a group largely based on a
previous Arbors release, THE PIZZArelli Party.
Also, the concept surrounded the idea of the
desert island disc or desert island favorites that
we have all come to compile in our own minds.
Well, this was his list and his band and his
dream and it was a joy to carry out.
It was a great challenge to put so many different
songs all on one disc, but it proved to be a
wonderful group of sessions and highly creative
ones at that. Every time we would get one idea
or arrangement for a song, we would stop and
think there needed to be a little more. The cd
became a kind of musical conversation from
one melody to the next and sometimes within
the same melody. Everyone got to have a say
and as I listened to the “dailies” I thought the
cd was having a real cinematic feel to it.
