Metered parking is available 9am to 6pm Mon - Sat along the perimeter of the upper level only. Never park on the lower level. Parking is also available on local streets (regulations are posted). Additional parking is available during select performances at St. Thomas Church on Mt. Pleasant Avenue. As told by Lear’s devoted clown, the story is not only poignant and moving, but also mischievous, tender and hysterically funny. All Wear Bowlers | $40; $20 students Apr 27 & 28, 2012 @ 8 pm (pictured below, right) In this hilarious hit show, two silent film clowns take a wrong turn and find themselves in a haunted theatre, where hard-boiled eggs play tricks on them and gravity refuses to behave. Rene Magritte, Samuel Beckett, and Laurel & Hardy collide in this sidesplitting romp that melds remarkable physical comedy with stage magic and vaudevillian patter. “Easily the most original and funny show this year” (The New York Times). Theatre 4 Bluegrass Subscribe and Save $30! The Gibson Brothers | $40 Oct 21, 2011 @ 8 pm (pictured at left) In 2010, upstate New Yorkers Eric and Leigh Gibson’s recording of the song “Ring the Bell” won IBMA awards for Song of the Year and Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year. The Gibson Brothers continue in the classic bluegrass tradition of close-harmony brother duets, adding exceptional songwriting, superb musicianship and terrific stage presence. Their return to the Emelin stage starts the 2011-12 bluegrass series off with a bang! J.D. Crowe | $40 Dec 9, 2011 @ 8 pm It’s impossible to overstate how much J.D. Crowe has influenced bluegrass music since he first came to prominence as a young member of Jimmy Martin’s Sunny Mountain Boys. Not only is he one of the most influential banjo stylists ever to pick the five, he has long been recognized as one of the most musically adventurous bandleaders that bluegrass has ever had. Truly a bluegrass legend, J.D. and his band The New South combine the best of hard-driving, traditionally rooted bluegrass with a thoroughly modern musical sensibility. Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike | $38 Feb 17, 2012 @ 8 pm Without a doubt one of bluegrass music’s most energetic, powerful and personable performers, Valerie Smith and her excellent band, featuring fiddler and songwriter Becky Buller, return to the Emelin for the first time since 2001. There’s an old-time feel to Valerie’s music that belies her ability to find exceptional songs by today’s best writers. Her vocal duets with Becky can be wistful, emotional, funny, and, often, hair-raising. It’s a treat to have her back at the Emelin in 2012. Monroe Crossing | $36 Mar 9, 2012 @ 8 pm (pictured at right) From the heart of Minnesota to the Emelin stage comes Monroe Crossing, one of the most crowd-pleasing bands in bluegrass. As their name suggests, the band’s musical influences range from Bill Monroe and other bluegrass pioneers to Motown. From their striking period attire to their unique vocal and instrumental arrangements, Monroe Crossing put on one of the best shows in bluegrass today. The Grascals | $40 Apr 20, 2012 @ 8 pm (pictured below) IBMA Entertainers of the Year in 2006 and 2007. IBMA Banjo Player of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2010 (Kristin Scott Benson). Emelin Conce Marshall Crenshaw | $27 Oct 1, 2011 @ 8 pm (pictured at left, center) Celebrating the 30th anniversary of his first single, Something’s Going to Happen, Marshall Crenshaw performs his first album and other hits such as Someday, Someway, Mary Anne and Cynical Girl. Crenshaw’s incredible performance talent led him to be cast as John Lennon in Beatlemania, and his songs have been covered by everyone from the Gin Blossoms to Bette Midler to Ronnie Spector. The Lovin’ Spoonful | $59* Oct 29, 2011 @ 8 pm *Add $30 to attend the post-show reception with the band! Dominating the charts in the 60s, The Lovin’ Spoonful penned some of the most iconic songs from the era including Do You Believe in Magic, You Didn’t Have to be So Nice and Summer in the City. After being inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, the band continues to spread their feel-good tunes to capacity audiences around the world. Gandalf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus Of Dreams | $27 (pictured at top) Dec 16, 2011 @ 8 pm Gandalf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus of Dreams’ singularly indescribable uniqueness has been labeled as “hillbilly Pink Floyd,” an apt description, particularly if you throw in elements of Neil Young, The Band, Bob Dylan and even Frank Zappa. At the same time, their sound and their songs feel so familiar and classic, it’s as if you’ve been listening to them all your life. Ages 2+ Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals Jan 7, 2012 @ 11 am Originally written for use in his Music for Aardvarks kids’ classes, David Weinstone’s songs have since captured the imagination of families all across the country. With songs that range from rock to folk to reggae to blues, “it’s no exaggeration to say that Weinstone has changed the musical geography of kids music” (Time Out NY Kids). Ages 2+ The Stinky Cheese Man (pictured on p. 16) Jan 28, 2012 @ 11 am & 1:30 pm Jack has to use his wits to save himself from the terrible Giant, but a host of familiar fairytale characters keep messing up his plans...and then there’s that annoying Stinky Cheese Man! Characters slide in and out of stories and nothing is quite the same as you remember it from classic fairytales in this stage adaptation of the book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith.
