The Residents of Dar al-Ma’mûn: Anna Della Subin
How to Sleep 300 Years?
Anna Della Subin, a young American essayist, regularly takes inspiration from the works of Arab authors. In this lecture
focused on the theme of sleep, Subin reflects on the possibility of spending one’s life lying down, or of waking up after
having slept for several centuries, bringing to mind two Egyptian authors: Albert Cossery, specifically his novel Les fainéants dans la vallée fertile (1948), and Tawfiq al-Hakim, specifically his play Ahl al-Kahf (1993). This lecture will serve as
an opportunity to meditate on the legend of the seven sleepers and its presence in different cultures.
Wednesday November 12th at 7pm
“Free” Rendez-vous: Mélanie Bouteloup / Bétonsalon
Bétonsalon is an arts and research center started in 2007, directed by Mélanie Bouteloup. Lodged in the

neighborhood’s cultural players, researchers, students, teachers, inhabitants and workers.
The two leaders of this organization are invited to Dar al-Ma’mûn as part of our ongoing reception of international
curators eager to discover the emerging scenes of Moroccan creation.
Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of November from 10am-7pm
Creative Time Summit
Each year Dar al-Ma’mûn partners with the New York-based organization Creative Time to live broadcast two
days of debates on the contemporary issues of creation.
This year, for the first time, Creative Time Summit will take place outside of the United States, in Stockholm.
Creative Time Summit 2014 will focus on public practices and the potential of art in the public sphere,
focusing on the practices that have social and political implications. Over the course of the two days, lecturers
from every continent will present. Among these organizations is Ghana Think Tank, a collective of American
artists who were in residence at Dar al-Ma’mûn in 2012. For 40 years, Creative Time has been a major player
in the production of works of art in the public space. The platform also produces a number of reports on
social and political phenomena from the four corners of the earth.

La Nouvelle Histoire - on Jacques Le Goff
Round-table moderated by Mohamed Houbaida and Lotfi Bouchentouf, organized in partnership with the
association Ribat al Koutoub.
Jacques Le Goff, a prolific and influential historian specializing in the Middle Ages, died in April 2014 at the
age of 90. In partnership with Ribat al Koutoub, Dar al-Ma’mûn will organize two days of workshops based
on his book Un long Moyen Age, bringing together students from the Université Cadi Ayyad and students
from other cities in Morocco. These workshops will be concluded with a public round-table on the innovations
that Jacques Le Goff brought to the historic discipline, most importantly the notion of “Nouvelle Histoire.”
Mohamed Houbaida is a history professor at the Université Ibn Tofail in Kenitra
Lotfi Bouchentouf is a history professor at the Université Hassan Il in Casablanca.
Ribat al-Koutoub (www.ribatalkoutoub.ma) is an Arabic online journal of human sciences, founded by
Abdelahad Sebti and Abdelhay Moudden, professors at the Université Mohamed V in Rabat, and directed
by a committee of researchers from different disciplines. It is also an association that works on the training of PhD
students, who get their foot in the door by having the opportunity to write articles and book reviews. Based
on a long-term partnership, Dar al-Ma’mûn invites the Ribat al-Koutoub collective to come three times a
year to share their experiences with students and researchers in the Marrakech area. This work, situated at
the border between training, research, and the dissemination of research, takes on the form of a thematic
workshop behind closed doors, followed by a public round-table.
Saturday December 6th at 7pm
Ahmed Bouanani : an œuvre in the making - David Ruffel
On the fringes of the cinematograph

of this polyvalent artist.
David Ruffel is a literary critic and independent researcher, specializing in contemporary literature. He lives
and teaches in Casablanca, where he started the experimental festival Masnaâ. He co-founded the Ecole
