T
o say we had a long and
bitter winter for our area
would be an understatement. I think Mother Nature
decided it was about time we got a
taste of what the residents living in
Minnesota and Wisconsin experience
every winter. There were weeks at
a time that it never reached above
freezing. We broke several records for
low temperatures that were more than
70 years old.
It came as no surprise Saturday
morning at the start of Motorama
when I got out of bed, looked out
the window and saw it snowing fairly
heavy with temperatures fighting to
reach 20 degrees (F). Despite all
the weather complications, the 37th
Annual Motorama Races and Shows
still had a great turnout and plenty of
competitive races with spectacular

shows. Of special note is that this
year’s event was dedicated to the
memory of Motorama’s founder Armin
H. Hostetter. Armin, a local area motor
sports icon, passed away in January
at 87. He spearheaded and supported
numerous racing clubs and tracks for
both autos and motorcycles.
For many years, Motorama has
been the nations largest all indoor
motorsports show. Each year it draws
more than 2,000 competitors both
pro and amateur from all over the
nation to compete in everything from
Arenacross and quarter-midget racing

to RC racing and Robot Conflicts. Live
bands Nuff Sedd and High Fascination
provided musical entertainment and the
44 Ms. Motorama pageant contestants
definitely provided the beauty aspect
of this 2-day extravaganza.

For those interested in custom bikes
and cars, the North Expo Hall was their
destination featuring the Rod, Custom
and Tuner War Showcase. Meanwhile,
the Main Hall hosted the Annual Speed
Show with more than 90 vendors and

vehicle displays.
Motorama is truly a family-friendly
event with something for every age
group and motor sports taste.

Armin can rest easy knowing his
baby is in good hands and his sons
and family will make him proud.
